Dark Souls

You can run away from enemies by dodging from them several times until you lose aggro and your character starts running again, at this point dodging is not needed anymore.

Some areas in game will lock you in a certain spot until you beat the enemies, but once you beat them and pass through this area again you can just dodge past them all

You can quit the game to main menu before you are about to die or if you feel like the encounter is going badly. You will not lose EXP. This is a great way to preserve EXP and get more levels. Also, quitting and continuing can save you some time, instead of backtracking to the idol

You can use a save point (IDOL) in one location that is close to a teleport and then use teleport stone to travel to a teleport stone you like. Sometimes, it works better than having to go from that location's idol to a fight you died at. It can be a better way because you will not have to go as far and you might not see (many) enemies on your way. You will only have to see a loading screen which takes seconds even on HDD. So it saves time and effort. I.e. teleport stones act almost like idols at times and can be used for checkpoints.

Always try to keep all enemies on one side from you

Easiest to use weapons I find to be distance closing or far reaching: Slashing sword's piercing attack, Bronze Dagger for leap attacks, fast spears, and some heavy weapons with a far reaching heavy attack (some swords, axes (Labryx - strongest weapon in the game damage wise), hammers)

Anubis' Seal of Welcome + Ring of Taworse are best items to stack damage. I suggest you use Anubis' Seal of Welcome through out your playthrough.

Royal Akhn Talisman is really handy to heal when you run out of healing water

In particular tough spots I suggest you go into the inventory mid fight and switch backpacks between Anubis and Akhn, heal up and then re-quip Anubis and use it again. Once you un-equip a backpack its effect will immediately stop, so make sure to remember that.

There is a limited amount of skill points in the game. Some are found, some are given for completing quests. You will not be able to max out all skills, so either try things out and then decide which you want to max out and which not. So plan ahead.

I made up my mind on Heavy Armor from start and support backpacks (they are strongest in offense too), and then had enough points to level both Light and Heavy weapons. I had 0 points in shields. Support backpacks is a must for any build

You do not need to spend points in shields, make sure you keep both starting shields. Starting Heavy shield is really good, 90% damage absorption without wasting skill points on it. I only ever used shields once. During Avarice snake goddess boss fight. And it is better because if you have a shield on you, some enemies will perform a staggering attack, even if you did not use it to block. So I just unequipped it.
Technical
The game is struggling with alt+tabbing on win10, sometimes it freezes and you gotta re-tab several times to get back to it.

Alt tab on start up, game fails to respond - end in task manager.

Sounds become really deaf sometimes and you gotta press ESC to fix it

Save file location: Save files are stored on the Steam Cloud folder, located in <steam folder>/userdata/<your_user_id>/386080/remote

I suggest you back up saves for any game you play just to be safe and you can back up the saves at the start of the final area so you can then replace them and replay all 3 endings without restarting

Oh, and p.s. there is a guide on beating the annoying 12 golems during the final level too, make sure not to quit the game because of them!
