The SV I use by far the most from early to late game in single player. It is disposably cheap and an excellent scout ship. Its main function is attacking the inside of POIs. It can even fit through doors. The gatlings, unlike smallweapons can damage all blocks meaning you can shoot through combat steel to get to the core or through armoured windows to take out spawners. It also fits easily down mined tunnels for deep or heavily armed structures. Shame it isn't more pretty.

Against troops without ranged weapons (like horrors and scorpions) it basically makes you invulnerable. It can take damage from small arms fire but is excellent against drones. For Zirax POIs I tend to use the infiltrator to take out turrets then clear on foot.

This is the version updated for Empyrion full release and the reforged/reforged Eden. It now has a detector and is even smaller than it used to be. The resource costs for both can be found in the relevant pictures above. Note I usually move the roll slider down to half so it doesnt spin too much. "o" key is your friend in very tight quarters.

Ion turrets in vanilla cannot fire up so can easily be taken down. In reforged eden they can shoot up but cannot shoot down so you can close at full speed and take the turrets out from below as in the video.

Its a simple, function-focused ship and not much can be done deco wise sadly as as soon as you add blocks on the side it can no longer pass through doorways.
