TD DOS Cutscenes

Description
WARNING: 10GB DOWNLOAD

Replaces the Remastered cutscenes with the original VQAs, upscaled nearest neighbour to 1920x1080.

These are the original 320x156 VQA cutscenes from the DOS games. The cutscenes in the Remasters are AI upscaled to a mix of 720(ish)x396 or 1920x1080, sourced from a mix of the VQAs, and the higher quality M-JPEGs from the old PlayStation ports.

The cutscenes in this mod are the originals from the DOS versions, upscaled nearest neighbour to 1080 (not AI upscaling, just scaled sharply with big blocky pixels) to maintain that quintessential retro FMV charm.

I'm so glad this exists. The AI upscaling was really starting to bum me out.

I cannot thank you enough for this: I was getting increasingly disappointed with how the cutscenes looked in the remaster, and it nearly caused me to stop playing. But now things are looking much better again.

Thank you for making these! The upscaled versions in the remaster are neat, but they don't interpolate the data well. Look at the water in the back of the aircraft carrier shots in TD's opening video for a really bad example. The human mind is better at filling in the detail of a low resolution image than any AI upscaling.

Ok got it.

@E. Carnby because I like playing the Remaster over the originals, but I prefer the original cutscenes over the remastered ones

If this was Warcraft 3 Reforged i would understand people would put things back that they miss etc.

But why make alternative legacy content when its much easier to just play the DOS version or C&C Gold instead?
To me it makes no sense, this is a remaster and should be played as one i think, the original is still downloadable as freeware.

Absolutely love this. As much as I respect the new versions, these are just so much, ironically, cleaner.
One issue I noticed though is that subtitles don't sync up with the video. Not the biggest issue, but it's a noticeable one.

Hey, Stefan... now do a whole batch of the thing you showcased on Youtube and make 'em all 60fps ;)

Very nice mod, definitely prefer it to new version! One thing that could be done still though is cleaning the sound a bit. For example flag.bk2 ends with a really loud click and there're similar problems with other videos. I know it's how it always has been and I'm not requesting remastering the sound, just make it a little less jarring

@coldroll Um, isn't integer scaling just hard pixel upscaling? That's exactly what this mod does.

As for "making it look good", you have to understand, the original data we got from the game really is just content meant for 320x240 screens, with a widescreen black banding effect that means the actual height of the video material is less than 200 pixels. There really isn't much to work from, there.
