The 2 Main Forms of Suck
Ok so basically there are 2 main types of suck that I have seen over my 2,300 hours on this game. You are either New Player Suck or, Bossfight Suck. New Player Suck is the best out of the 2 sucks to have, purely because this gets fixed with time, and there's a chance you might actually emerge later as a "Good Player". However Bossfight Suck... well.. it sucks. The reason for that is because it can really only be fixed with grinding and practicing the bossfight until you are no longer suck.
New Player Suck
So now you might be wonder, "How do I no longer suck?" Well look no further, for I will now be explaining how to stop sucking.

If you have New Player Suck you most likely just started playing this game, either with your friends, or by yourself. Because you are inexperienced, and have no idea what anything is, or what you are doing, the only real way for you to get better at this point is for you to just play the game more. Struggling against the harsh terrarian environments, being killed, and failing, but then overcoming all of that. That is how you will end up as A Decent Player.
Bossfight Suck
On the other hand, if you have Bossfight Suck you are usually either the one who dies first to the boss, or when everyone needs you fails under the pressure of carrying your whole friend group. Or if you are playing singleplayer, you just straight up die about halfway through because you suck. There are many causes for taking fat L's. The most common (Not including stuff that is both entirely your fault, and preventable.) of those are:

  • Not used to the boss
  • Bad Arena

This list does not include certain causes for their own reasons:

  • Running out of health and mana potions - Stock up on them stupid
  • Not using your buffs - Just press "B" on your keyboard if they are in your inventory
  • Not having the correct armor/weapons for your class, or the fight - Just go grind for them, you are no speedrunner
Solution 1 to Bossfight Suck
If you are not used to the fight, I highly recommend going into another world, and dedicate time to practicing that fight. I have heard of worlds for download that are just a single large arena for this very reason, feel free to look them up. You mainly just go in circles around your arena, and that method seems to work just fine 90% of the time. The only real exceptions I can think about for this would be Duke Fishron, Empress of Light, and Moonlord. The only way for you to get used to a bossfight is by playing it a ton, I personally have little to no trouble with any vanilla fights, purely because I have fought them all at least 30 times.
Solution 2 to Bossfight Suck
However if your arena is jeopardizing you, here are some helpful arena tips.

Use passive arena buffs. They provide increased health/mana regeneration, and an extra 5 defense. Make sure that the are spread across your arena so that you get these buffs at all times.

These are the 4 Arena Buffs I will always use.
  • Campfire - Increased health regeneration
  • Heart Lantern - Increased health regeneration
  • Star in a Bottle - Increased mana regeneration
  • Bast Statue - Increase of 5 defense

Please note that yes, I do not use honey, this is because it kills your momentum. This is a personal preference, you may add honey to your list of arena buffs if you so desire.

Use station buffs. Right clicking these will provide you with a 10 minute buff. I advise you to put them in the center of your arena, but it really doesn't matter where you place these.

You should always have these in your arena, feel free to move them from arena to arena.
  • Sharpening Station - Increased melee damage
  • Bewitching Table - 1 extra summon
  • Crystal Ball - Increased magic damage and mana regeneration (I think that is what it does, I just remember to click it if I'm playing mage, and everything works fine.)
  • Ammo Box - Increased ammo recover and increased range damage (Same thing with the Crystal Ball, just click it if you are playing ranged.)

Those are great and all, but it truly doesn't matter if the spacing between arena platforms is trash. Please make sure you have good spacing between your platforms, this is the most important thing to your arena.

  • Far left - Use this spacing during Pre-Hardmode, because you don't have wings and rely on bottles, this is a good spacing for Pre-Hardmode
  • Center - Use this during Hardmode, now that you have wings the previous Pre-Hardmode spacing will break your momentum too often.
  • Far right - Use this during Calamity Hardmode or Post-Moonlord, this is for playing modded, because with mods the bossfights are often very crazy, and you will want a lot of air space to dodge projectiles.
No Time Like the Present to Stop Sucking
I hope that this guide has been somewhat of use to you, or that you at least learned something new. Do be sure to spread the words of god to your friends who suck, let them know that they don't have to suck anymore. That is all, have a nice day gentlemen.

Good guide my dude! Nice to see that new players aren't being crapped on. Can be tricky to get good with bosses starting off though.
You missed one type of suck though: New Character Suck.
When you are so used to relying on all your fancy gear that you spent hours getting, then many more hours using that you keep trying to use them with a new character and keep falling into lava, down holes or getting stuck in a hole :P

i went into this expecting it to be another generic, useless meme guide, but its actually pretty helpful, memes included. i like it a lot!

you see there is a 3rd type of suck
you just suck
this suck will only go away if you dedicate an extremely large amount of time to not sucking i recommend extreme cheese or if you have time practice against all the bosses till you can beat them at least 8/10 times with realistic weapons armor and buffs to have when you fight the boss
(if your fighting eoc you would use minimal armor, 100-120 health, and like a snowball canon or something and for moon man you would use shroomite and a vortex beater or phantasm) then play expert realize expert is way harder than normal and work on learning regular enemy patterns as well and then realize its still not working and then realize that crit grenade does 150~ damage and then blow yourself up and still suck
(i am exctly this kind of suck)

i have the worst type of suck both of them combined

Dez_Flame_Fox, have you tried maybe using better gear for Skeletron, the only boss you should fight with a snowball cannon would be EoC or King Slime.
fox.net 7 Sep, 2020 @ 12:53pm
I still suck at the skeletron bossfight because i cant dodge that well. i tried using platforms and my slime saddle, along with my godly snowball cannon, but i got nothing.
