Description
The Conair Turbo Firecat was part of a program started by Conair Group in 1988 to take old CS2F Trackers and rebuild them as "Fire Bombers". This process involved stripping the aircraft down to the bone and removing all of its ASW weapons and electronic systems, and replacing the Wright R-1820 radial engines with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67AF turboprop engines. Combined with powerful new engines and avionics the rebuilt aircraft was a very successful Fire Bomber. Firecats were still being used in France until recently; but in 2019 the fleet was retired after several deadly accidents.

The Stormworks Firecat's primary purpose is to arrive quickly and attempt to stop the spread of the fire until larger and more capable aircraft become available or ground crews arrive and can attack the blaze. It's maneuverability and low speed performance allow for better control when operating at lower altitudes and near obstacles, and it carries enough retardant to effect the spread of the fire.

SPECIFICATIONS:
- Max Speed: 180+ KIAS
- Cruise Speed: 126+ KIAS
- Max Range: 95 Km (For 'Ferry Flights' its recommended that the water tanks are emptied before the flight)
- Fuel Capacity: 24500 LBS
- Retardant Capacity: 800 total Gal. in two drop bays

ENGINE START CHECKLIST
  • DOORS AND BOARDING LADDER........CLOSED AND SECURED
  • BATTERY........ON
  • NAVIGATION LIGHTS........ON
  • STROBE........ON
  • AVIONICS........ON
  • SELECT LEFT OR RIGHT ENGINE STARTER........ON
  • *OBSERVE ENGINE NG (% RPM) AND ENGINE I.T.T.
  • NG (% RPM) AT 10% 'ENGINE FLIGHT CONDITION'........IDLE/ON
  • NG (% RPM) AT 20+% 'SELECTED ENGINE STARTER'........OFF
  • ENGINE I.T.T. ~ 650 CELSIUS........CHECKED
  • ENGINE NG (% RPM) ~45%........CHECKED
  • ENGINE GENERATOR........ON
  • AC INVERTER........ON
  • BLEED AIR........AS REQUIRED*
  • START OTHER ENGINE (REPEAT SAME STEPS AFTER ENGINE STARTER ON)
  • HYDRAULIC PRESSURE ~1500 PSI........BOTH CHECKED
  • GUST LOCK.........OFF
  • ENGINE START CHECKLIST.........COMPLETE
NOTES:
  • "Hot Starts" can be avoided by simply waiting for the NG% to rise above 10% before turning the 'ENGINE CONDITION' on. If you do have a "Hot Start" the I.T.T. will rise or spike to 1200 Degrees. Immediately turn the Engine Condition button to "OFF" or engine damage will occur. Wait for the engine to spool down and cool, then try restarting.
  • Leaving the engine starter ON after the engine has ignited and is spooling up will damage the Starter permanently! Turn it off as soon as the engine is at or above 20% NG RPM.
  • In the event of an emergency, Retardant can be dropped quickly without the engines running. Press and hold the 'EMERGENCY RETARDANT DUMP' button for 3 seconds. However, to close the doors and reset the mechanism one of, or both Engine(s) must be running and ~1500 pounds of hydraulic pressure available.
  • When the Autopilot is engaged and a new altitude is selected via the 'INCREASE/DECREASE ALTITUDE' button(s) observe the Altimeter; for a short period it will display the altitude you have selected before returning to the aircraft's current altitude.
  • 'BLEED AIR' is required to be on for the purpose of heating the aircraft and anti-icing. The Anti-Icing System should be 'ON' before temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius.
  • Fuel is consumed at a very high rate and after takeoff I recommend setting the throttle to around 0.92 or lower if possible to conserve fuel for as long as possible
  • The Throttle will be automatically "locked" in 'Flight Range' once airborne and will not be "unlocked" until on or near the ground.
  • Below 125KIAS the roll rate will be automatically reduced in order to assist with landings and takeoffs.
  • In case you forget the Boarding Ladder will retract itself once a Right Engine start attempt is made.

I hope you enjoy this aircraft and are able to keep the forests safe for us all to ENJOY!

***ENSURE YOU HAVE 'INFINITE ELECTRICITY' TURNED OFF IN THE OPTIONS***

Most of the Avionics are rebuilds of PenguinO's FINE work. Go check out his workshop there are alot of GREAT creations there: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/profiles/76561198949350145/myworkshopfiles/?appid=573090

UPDATE 25 OCT 2022:
- Improved Ground Handling
- Improved range and low speed handling
- Added Reversers to Turbines
- Improvement for lower 'Psychics Settings'
- Host of other cosmetic and functionality improvements

ENJOY!

alexZeGret, howdy!
Since the pressure update(s) this aircraft is mildy broken. I'm working on fixes for all of them.
Its coming along...slowly.
Thanks for your paitence!

can you help my engines keep dying mid flight randomly
GERUNIMO  [author] 13 Jul @ 12:59pm
Jarsp, sorry you're having trouble.
Since the pressure updates most of my builds are acting "funky" I have an update in the works.
Glad you like it, it means alot!

Oops, forgot about this...now it won't seem to start at all...any chance you'd take a look at it? Most accurate conair on the workshop!

Jarsp, Sorry you're having trouble; do you have the 'Gust Lock' on or off?
Jarsp 2 Dec, 2023 @ 5:40pm
The plane will start, but the throttle gets a little weird. If you put it in reverse, it wont move at all.

NebulousIdiot, you probably have 'infinite electricity" turn on. Turn that 'off' in the options and you should be good.
Hope that helps!

I found the gust lock control lever, flipped it (I've followed all other instructions to the letter) and the throttle won't go past 12 %

CatWithABat, AH HA! I see where the confusion is now! In the directions I said "5% NG", that is wrong! :steamfacepalm:
It should be 10%. Sorry about that, I'm fixing the directions now! I must have changed it at some point and forgotten to edit the description.
Thanks for pointing it out to me!

CatWithABat, also worth noting that if the starter is left on and the condition button is never turned on, the starter will "time out" and shutoff.
Also, make sure to turn off the starter once the engine is running or you will "burn out" the starter motor and be unable to start the engine again.
Hope that helps!
