Rare Earth Smelter

Description
---------

This mod adds the usage of Rare Earth Smelters into the game which allow you to extract rare earth minerals including Steel, Gold, Silver, Plasteel, and Jade from stone chunks. The larger the smelter, the more minerals it yields at a higher power cost and work time.

There are 4 models of the Rare Earth Smelters:
-Small Rare Earth Smelter
-Rare Earth Smelter
-Heavy Duty Rare Earth Smelter
-Giant Rare Earth Smelter

---------
NEW in this version!
Added a research tab and tree.
Added Radiation Experiments and Particle Radiation Theory research.
Added the ability to generate uranium at the Heavy Duty and Giant Rare Earth Smelters by harnessing alpha-decay.
Updated for version 1.2*
*Backwards-compatible with versions 1.1 and 1.0

***Special thanks to Yap for their edits and contributions!***

Hi, I have a question, why i can't the rotated Giant Rare Earth Smelter ? is it really made like that? Because I couldn't rotate it, I couldn't place the Giant Rare Earth Smelter well

@Xyllisa Hi can you link me which mods you're referring to? I'm working on an expansion for this mod currently, and I can look into that once I've finished it some time in the next month.

It's certainly possible, I'll just need to see how they wrote their mods to make it work.

Thanks!

Hi there; Just curious, can recipes be added/removed? I want to remove steel a and replace it with iron from a mod I have, among other things.

All good points.

So what I've just done is made the research prerequisites a lot more demanding and I changed the Small smelter to 12 steel. The Standard will now produce 35 steel. Large will be 75. Giant will be 100. And the road to get to giant is now much more time-consuming. I nerfed the gold, silver, jade, and plasteel amounts slightly as well.

I may play around with the amounts more in the future but I hope this is a good start to balancing things :)

Try it out and let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I think that the values are a little to high for how abundant chunks are and how easy it is to get the smelter early on. I'd like to see the values on the small rare earth smelter changed to only giving 10 steel or so. Making it the same as slag can make the early game so much easier.

I think getting more resources for the higher level smelters are fine but the small one just gives so much steel for a basic research project. I would even make the Improved rare earth smelter to 25 since it is still very easy to get. Then you could make the Heavy one 40 steel.

@thigh highs

Thanks for the feedback. What do you think is a proper amount of steel?

I've considered changing those values in the future but my reasoning behind the amounts of minerals is for spacer purposes when you have a large colony with lots of resource demand. That said, the small rare earth smelter only produces:
20 Steel
1 Gold
2 Silver
3 Plasteel

To add to that, I chose 40 steel for the standard model because that's how much you get from a single compacted steel reserve, and the amount of time and work is actually higher when using the smelter after considering mining, rng to get chunks, and the time it takes to haul and then smelt the chunks.

Another thing I took into consideration is power usage. The larger smelters all use a significant amount of power to compensate for their productivity.

While it seems like a lot of steel, if you're like me, you can never have enough of it.

I'd love to hear what you and anyone else think about that!

Thanks!

Is there a way for you to make it so we can change amount of minerals we get? I feel like 40 steel is a lot and want to tone that down.
