In Singapore, unlike the original English terms that only refer to siblings of your parents, 'Uncle' 'Auntie' are the terms that are used to call out to any person who you think is older than you and you don't know their name — a neighbour, a service staff, taxi driver, bus driver, food stall owners, random older person on the streets etc.

In Australia we use it for close friends of older family members, not just relatives but not anyone you meet either.
