Description
NEW UPDATE! Additional changes made to AI unit & building choices. Huge improvements to AI building (more civic building focused on infrastrcture & AI tech overhaul, now AI should choose their tech more wisely and will focus on rifles & kneel fire
NEW! AI will now station more troops at its towns & borders if it's had a recent war with the particular clan in the recent past.)


Early version of an AI overhaul mod for Fall of the Samurai, the goal is to make the AI smarter and harder without giving them bonuses over the players.please leave suggestions and issues in the comments!

What does this do?

This mod makes several changes to the behavior and choices the AI will make on the campaign. (no battle AI changes yet)

1. Unit Recruitment The AI will now prioritize ranged missile units over melee units (Less yari levy spam). It's pretty well developed at this stage but additional improvements will be made.

2. Building Priority The AI will now improve their provinces in a smarter way (Better building comboing, more focus on either economic or military buildings.) There might also be problems that arise with this, leave suggestions in the comments!

3. Technology AI will prioritize researching Western Tech and military techs more, with a focus on prioritizing rank fire and rifles to give the player a more realistic and challenging campaign!

4. Naval Changes AI won't spam crappy wooden ships, they'll focus less on navy in general and when they do buy ships they'll aim for heavier and better armed ships.

5. Campaign Choices AI are now better allies/vassals, and being better at defending their provinces and such.

6. Budgeting AI will manage their economy better, they will build up infrastructure and the economy!

7. AI Unit Priorities AI now prioritizes western style units more than traditional units, (you'll see less samurai unless the clan is a diehard traditional clan) The goal here is to have more gunfights rather than the player mowing down 3000 yari levy.

hi, is this compatible with mods that make the AI not produce any ships at all. (I hate navy managment)

So, the actual problem isn't their unit compositions, because over time the AI will use end game infantry and cannons. Their real problem is economic stability and growth, they never give a shit about what actually pays them and therefore their armies are always shit.

Does the AI actually build up the railways in FOTS with this mod?

It didn't change the difficulty itself very much though, since the AI still doesn't usually attack with multiple army stacks. I saw the AI trying to invade lands with small armys inside 1 or 2 ships, I wouldn't call that smar. I also missed the AI prioritising upgrading farms if they have fertile/very fertile soil. I saw alot of late game provinces with no upgrades on these type of farms, like not even the first one, although the cost/benefit of these is absolutely insane.

6/10, could be better but still an improvement over vanilla

It seems like the pro-shogun clans are still building dojo, though with some line infantries. Are there any means to let those clans prioritizes modern military chain?
