The difficulty level is perfect. It is challenging while not frustrating. I wish other writers would think more like you. Providing Jaliento at the start was a good move.
To prevent the ambient characters from following the PC, set their team to civilians. They will interact appropriately after that. You could create a new team (e.g. Runners2), but the main thing is to make them a separate team from the PC.
A datajack goes in your head. Fry is selling me a deck because for some reason new characters don't begin with one. This main character should know the difference between a deck and a jack.
