Das Boot U-96

This is a small grid recreation of a historical submarine, a german U-boat U-96. Fully airtight but can't fly on planets.

Her armament consisted of 4 forward launching torpedo tubes, 1 stern torpedo tube, 8.8cm naval gun and a 20mm anti-aicraft gun. On surface was propelled by 2 diesel engines and submerged by 2 electric motors. Type VIIc could reach maximum speed of 17.7 knots (32.8 km/h or 9.1 m/s)



In game she is very slow but can move in all direction. Just like in real life there is "diesel" hydrogen propulsion using hydrogen thrusters, hydrogen engines, and batteries. When switching to electric motors, hydrogen thrust is automatically disabled and reactors and ion thrusters are tunred on. Main control seat is located in the control room.

The Pericope can be accessed via a seat in the radio room or a seat in the conning tower, either of which have already set up controls for easy manipulation. The deck gun uses Whip's MART script, However I was not able to this script to work with the periscope as well.






Series of button are placed throughout the interior. These buttons switch light modes, white - normal, blue - silent running, red - alarm or night mode.

Couple of red 'startup' and 'shutdown' buttons are present. As the name suggests, this timer block based system allows you to quickly start up, restart or shut down the ships systems. All LCDs run MMaster's Automatic LCDs 2.




U-96 was commissioned on 14 September 1940 and sunk on 30 March 1945 by US bombs in Wilhelmshaven. U-96 conducted 11 patrols, sinking 27 ships and damaging four others. The boat was a member of eleven wolfpacks. In her entire career, she suffered no casualties to her crew.

This is not an attemt to create the exact replica of the U-96 or any other Type VII U-boat. Rooms such as the galley and crew quarters may be switched compared to the real U-boats. I used the UBOAT game as a source and no actual photograpchic or other historical materials, however the model in the UBOAT game has been created using those sources.
