Crossfire by Arty Conliffe

Description
Welcome to CrossFire! An innovative and awesome tabletop wargame invented by Arty Conliffe.

The game needs neither a ruler nor fixed game turns. Essentially, CrossFire knows only two ranges, point blank and everything else, the assumption being that everything on the map is within rifle range, so take cover! CrossFire works only properly on tables where lots of terrain is used in order to allow movement unseen by the opponent. Additionally, the Initiative system makes combat fast, hard hitting, and engaging.

Currently the game supports:

- 7 playable nations (France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United States)
- every on-map Unit, Vehicle, ATG, and IG listed in the core rulebook
- all terrain features listed from the core rulebook and the Hit the Dirt scenario expansion
- tokens and markers for all unit status effects (Pinned, Suppressed, etc.)
- multiple board sizes for all listed combat scales
- a Novice Scenario Board and introductory instructions

Updates will be made as often as possible to fix issues, correct problems, and adding new/missing content to the game. This includes:

- 4 more Nations that need to be added (Belgium, Finland, Hungary, and Poland)
- More board sizes (at least 96" x 60"), and more custom boards for various scenarios

I can only take credit for compiling these assets and creating a few little things of my own; all credit goes to the following content creators for their incredible work:

- Baryonyx
- Mayapia
- Ulfhe
- Veregond
- Tactical Shift
- LazyBoy for his awesome Bolt Action models
- and Arty Conliffe for his incredible ruleset

Enjoy! And remember, 2/3rds of all artillery fired in WW2 was smoke. Keep your men in cover!

Smoke markers have been updated, but fixing the other markers might take a smidge longer. Good suggestions!

Just a small wishlist...

1. Pre-made smokescreen pieces in all needed sizes would be welcome.
2. The NO FIRE and Ground Hugging/Hit the Dirt markers would be more convenient if they weren't hovering so high up.

Hidden Zones is an excellent idea to be honest, might start doing that. The notecard thing just comes from playing it irl as a "what we're used to doing" solution

I stand corrected: only the notebook is colour/player specific.

That would work. I didn't know the notecard function (bottom right) were player (colour) specific. I was thinking of using hidden placement or zones (https://kb.tabletopsimulator.com/game-tools/zone-tools/#:~:text=A%20hidden%20zone%20is%20an,although%20their%20contents%20are%20hidden.) but your solution works too 👍🏻

If my group is ever using hidden units, we usually number the terrains/buildings with the writing tools and have the hidden troops' locations written down on a notecard. It's not perfect but it gets the job done well enough.

Thanks for replying! Ah you're right now I read the rules again. I knew about artillery/mortars who are by default placed off-map but I somehow missed the sniper part at first.

How would you suggest placing hidden stands/units in this mod btw?
Jin  [author] 18 Jan @ 12:27pm
Since snipers mechanically are deployed hidden and once used are instantly remove from the map, it never occurred to me to make units for them. Similar reason as to why the artillery "units" are so basic in comparison to the fielded units. But could if there's demand.
