Midge A12 Ultra Cheap Space Miner T1 L7

Very low resource requirements, with no need for cobalt or neo the Midge is the first SV I spawn in every single player playthrough. It allows you to mine in space and visit the orbital graveyard and moon even if you haven't found an EVA boost. You will need to be wearing armour though for the jetpack, but you can craft light armour very easily if you don't start with it. Mid game I tend to spawn them on every planet where I place an autominer and teleporter nexus as they provide an easy cheap way to get the empty/refuel your autominers

It has good manoueverability and one custom signal "open up" which opens all the ramps and roof. This mainly prevents the shutter doors automatically opening when you get close to them (I've toppled out of too many miner cockpits).

The cockpit is to the right rather than central to prevent you getting stuck when leaving the cockpit when the ship is not level.

NOTES ON COMBAT

While it is manoeverable, most of the yaw comes from rear and fore thruster placement so the Midge is not suitable for strafing. It does have sufficient fore acceleration to hang in mid air so can be used to take down POIs with only ion turret defences (as they cannot fire vertically) or for killing drones. Ion turrets are the ones with the green projectiles.
Drones can only shoot at things level or below them. Always ensure you have a height advantage over the drones and you will never take any damage.

Fully laden with cargo I only use it against drones.

UPGRADING THE MIDGE
Generally the only addition I make is sometimes adding a constructor for which there is a space in the rear of the cockpit. Note this requires cobalt and takes it above the T1 limit so normally I only use a constructor when not flying to produce things or refine ores, it is then stored in the main container. There is 1K or spare CPU left if you want to add more thrust or another gatling, although I generally do not fine the need for either.
