History (Real Life)

Boeing had considered larger-capacity versions of the 747 several times during the 1990s and 2000s (Boeing New Large Airplane). In 2000, Boeing offered the 747X and 747X Stretch derivatives as alternatives to the Airbus A3XX. This was a more modest proposal than the previous −500X and −600X. The 747X would increase the 747's wingspan to 69.8m by adding a segment at the root. The 747X was to carry 430 passengers up to 16,100 km. The 747X Stretch would be extended to 80.2m long, allowing it to carry 500 passengers up to 14,400km. However, the 747X family was unable to attract enough interest to enter production. Some of the ideas developed for the 747X were used on the 747-400ER.

After the 747X program, Boeing continued to study improvements to the 747. The 747-400XQLR (Quiet Long Range) was meant to have an increased range of 14,920km, with better fuel efficiency and reduced noise. Changes studied included raked wingtips similar to those used on the 767-400ER and a 'sawtooth' engine nacelle for noise reduction. Although the 747-400XQLR did not move to production, many of its features were used for the 747 Advanced.

In early 2004, Boeing announced tentative plans for the 747 Advanced that were eventually adopted. Similar in nature to the 747X, the stretched 747 Advanced used technology from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to modernize the design and its systems. In 2005, Boeing forecast a market for 300 aircraft, split evenly between freighters and passenger variants. On November 14, Boeing announced that it was launching the 747 Advanced as the "Boeing 747-8".

The 747-8's first engine runs were completed in December 2009. Boeing announced the new model had successfully completed high-speed taxi tests on February 7, 2010. On February 8, 2010, after a 2.5-hour weather delay, the 747-8 Freighter made its maiden flight, taking off from Paine Field, Washington at 12:39 PST, and landed at 4:18 pm PST.

How To Fly

This is quite simple. First you need to check wheather you got enough power on plane (no hydro, this uses atmo. thrusters only). When you are ready, roll out on your runaway (it should be 300 large blocks in length). Make sure that air brakes are closed ("5"). Then start accelerating, when you reach 60m/s you can start taking off. When you are off the ground retract the landing gear by activating "4" on your toolbar.

Flying plane is no different from regular ship in SE - this uses standart gyros to rotate and etc. Hold "W" to keep accelerating, although it is not needed when flying at -5 and less angles. Plane becomes a glider. Important: do not turn on backward thrusters ("6") while in-flight, they are needed only when landing and taxiing on the ground.

When you are ready to land, extend landing gear (better to do this 1km or so before the runaway, because it takes some time to extend the thing) by pressing the same button as for retracting ("4"), and go to special landing camera by pressing "2". This camera will give you nice view of both your landing gear and the runaway. Carefully touch the ground and watch the show - plane will automatically turn on reverse and open air brakes on it's own. Then close air brakes ("5") and taxi your way to where u need. Hope you enjoyed flying this plane.

How To Launch

To properly spawn this model you have to:
  1. Go to the Advanced Settings of the world
  2. Turn on Scripts
  3. Go to the Mod Settings of the world
  4. Add listed Mods
  5. Launch the world
  6. Spawn the model via F10 menu
Try to repeat this process and make sure that you did everything correctly and didn't forget about anything.

Mods used and why:

Plane Parts
To give jet lifting power and appropriate look
AQD - Armor Expansion
To give plane a proper look, especially in the nose and tail section

@Jasper LaChance part of the fun I guess.

@daddmin you're welcome. Didn't realize I never posted it, huh. Even then, it would have been almost identical to 737 that is already on the workshop, so it's not a giant loss.

@3985_Challenger-Class anywhere between one day and eternity. I certainly won't do it, lol.

Question how long to make this into the 747 Airborne Carrier concept?
