This re-creation is a one in two special, a theatrical dark ride experience called Hex: The Legend of the Towers and the Alton Towers Ruins.

Upon loading the park you will be prompted to download TMTK items, YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THEM. Not downloading them will prevent you from experiencing Hex: The Legend of the Towers.

Hex tells the story of the Chained Oak Tree, a legend based on the towers themselves. The story has been a local legend for years, but was slightly altered in the ride to make the attraction more appealing.
The legend says that the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury was cursed by an old beggarwoman to suffer a death in the family every time a branch fell from the old oak tree. Hex's version embellishes the end of the 'original' tale with the Earl experimenting on one of the fallen branches in a vault deep within the Towers themselves, and it is this vault, with its entrance bricked up behind a bookcase, that has supposedly been sealed up for two centuries and only recently discovered during renovation work. This is explained in several scenes during the experience.

Hex: The Legend of the Towers features the first ever working Madhouse in Planet Coaster. Others have tried by using the top spin, but this is the only one that can spin on its own!

In 1801, Charles Talbot, the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury, decided that Alton Castle was beyond repair so he decided to have work started on a Gothic-style stately home on his estate on the northside of the Churnet valley. Over the next ten years, architects such as Thomas Allason, William Hollins, and Thomas Hopper contributed to the building. Work included the addition of a drawing room, dining room, chapel, library, long gallery, banqueting hall, conservatory, and entrance hall. As a result, the building was doubled in size. It also included the laying of the foundations for the Flag Tower. The house was renamed Alton Abbey, despite having no particular religious connection.
