Description
The Mantis is the ultimate multi-role warship of the taskforce. Extremely heavily armed and armoured, it has a detachable habitat ring that can form the core of a space station with science, construction, medical and habitat areas and mining drills for resource gathering. It is therefore perfectly suited for both military interdiction and leading task forces and colonists to new-found areas of space. It has two docking points behind the main armour for colony pod capital ships and a further docking point on top of the ring for dropships and colonist CVs. It has a large hangar and rear landing bays for HVs and SVs. This prototype version includes the use of alien technology in the use of xenoformed blocks in its armour layering

This is the Mantis upgraded with several cosmetic changes suggested by HushedDispatch, the addition of new blocks and devices and 558 Xeno blocks included in its armour. This is a reasonably easy number of blocks/xeno substrate to gather in the course of the game where you could spawn a high level ship like this anyway.

Combat

The Mantis has the full range of turrets, all of which have good angles of fire to the fore for concentration of fire. It has a 19 block thick layer of heavy armour with bait turrets 9 blocks in to absorb any damage that gets past shield. While this is unnecessary in vanilla where everything is weak if playing harder scenarios of servers it can handle itself very well and in alpha 12 with rumoured harder AI turrets it will be able to handle any chages there as well. There is redundancy in placement of all key systems. Note, some of the cannon turrets are further back and raised to give 360 degree protection against drones on planet while still projecting arcs forwards.

Concept

Basically, the Goshawk hangar was too small for my large tanks and SVs so I decided to build a new ship with larger hangars and able to safely handle harder custom POIs. I wanted a ship to lead a taskforce of colonists. The habitat ring can't really detach to form a base I'm afraid.

Convenience

Hangar, decontamination shower, full medic etc. are all very close to the battlebridge. There are both front and rear exits from the ship (for when you land on uneven terrain). It does not have any growplots as these are on the hydroponics pod CV which saves you having to leave the CV powered on constantly just to keep plants alive. It has two large container controllers and numerous named storage. Additional controllers can be added by docking the storage module. The hangar doors are operated by motion sensor but there is also an override to keep them open in the main control panel (as otherwise flying in SVs can get annoying as the doors close every time you re-enter ship cockpit)

CPU It has 900k spare CPU this is in case you want to add anything further to it, but mostly because of the increase in CPU of turrets rumoured for Alpha 12 or 13

Awesome design Fion, I love in particular the extra modules that can be slapped onto it, not that many modular CVs still so nice to see a greatly functional one. Love as well the paint job and how durable I know this will be in PVP. Well done on a good job.
