This is a playlist of missions inspired by missions that the SAR boat I volunteer on, “DNV2”, has been on in the past. Everything from man over board searches to boats on fire and keeping the ocean safe.


A hay bale…
Inspired by a mission I took part in myself. We were out on a short patrol after a towing exercise at night time, and we nearly crashed into something big floating in the water. It was a large hay bale blown off from an island where some guys I know kept sheep. Couldn’t just let it float there and be a risk for the traffic.

Man over board
A scary scenario that happens way too often. Boat at work far out in the sea, and a crew member falls over board and is nowhere to be seen. Only thing to do is to call in as many vessels in the area as possible to help find them before they drown.

A runaway boat
A prime example of why smaller boats have kill cords. A boat was spotted driving in circles with no one onboard. The driver had fallen over board without the kill cord attached to him. The boat kept on driving at full speed with him in the water. Stopping it takes some creative solutions, or just ramming it.

Boat on fire
Just like any building or vehicle with electrics and flammable substances, a fire can happen at any time. Most of the time it’s when boats are at dock, which has its good and bad sides. Less likely that there’s anyone onboard to get hurt, but often there’s more boats and structures around that the fire can spread too.

Collision
One of the most serious types of boat accidents. A boat colliding with land, shallows or other boats. Often several people involved and hurt, and the amount and types of damage is impossible to predict.
