Yet another Overture GUIDE
By CleoPinoli
...of all things I wish someone told me when I couldn't reach Stage 1-4. Or when I died at 1-9.
A very personal guide of tips and tricks that I decided to write after the umptenth death and lesson learnt.

Did you just die again?
I'm guessing you're reading this because you are growing slightly mad at this game, dear reader. Eh, I feel you.

I decided to publish a few tips 'n' tricks that I collected from my personal experience - featuring our best boy the Druid.
Why the Druid?
But why the Druid?
...you might ask.

The most correct answer to said question is: for personal preference.
While I spent most of my in-game hours playing the Arsonist (because he leaves a lot of general devastation wherever he goes) I lately learnt to appreciate the Druid; another character I played a bit was the Ranger.

I find the Druid to be super versatile:
  • he has not one but two passive powers, as around him are always a spirit of a wolf and a bird: while I didn't properly understand what the bird does (my guess is that he can absorb some damage every couple seconds, thus acting as an extra shield), the wolfie behaves exactly as the skeletons summoned by the undead enchantment found on swords, namely he roams around you and eats away enemies' HP (bless him, may I add);

  • his tactical skill allows the Druid to transform into a close-combat wolf: when transformed, he gains a significant movement speed boost, along with some extra defence. Also, I noticed, going back from wolf to human form doesn't consume mana! (which can be life-saving sometimes). So you may get it now, this is main reason why I called the Druid "versatile", he can be both a powerful long-ranged attacker and a melee fastboi, which comes in handy especially in boss rooms and in sticky situations where you're looking for a quick way to disengage;

  • but that's not all, folks! Let's call this a third passive ability: when the Druid returns to human form, a circular shield is summoned around him to absorb
    literally all arrows, fireballs and long range attacks
    directed to him for a couple seconds (2s maybe?). Exactly the same shield summoned by the shielding enchantment;

Are you still doubtful? щ(゚Д゚щ)
Now to the Practical Tips
0) Enchantments (or bonuses, idk)
I added a #0 Tip just to highlight a few item enchantments that I find relevant. Note: when you find an item whose raw stats are better than the one you have equipped, said number will be displayed in green, red otherwise [e.g.: 100 ATK sword vs your 70 ATK]

Now let's assume you currently have a [NORMAL] 110 ATK sword and you find a [UNDEAD] 100 ATK one: my advice (especially in late game) is to sacrifice those 10 attack points and get the bonus - the higher the % of that bonus is, the more it will be worth it!

My top picks for bonuses:

  • WOLF: [armor] +50% mana regen., -25% armor;

  • CHEETAH: [armor] +15% movement spees, -25% attack;

  • GOLDEN: [misc] % drop more gold on kill;

  • INVIGORATION: [weapon?], % drop small mana potion on hit;

  • TOXIC: [weapon] % summon a poisonous cloud on hit;

  • UNDEAD: [weapon] % summon skeletons that target enemies;

  • VORTEX: [weapon] % summon a vortex around you that deals damage to nearby enemies;

  • BEAMING: [weapon] % summon those damn yellow circles that will confuse the hell out of you visually but it'll be worth it I promise;

1) For the love of God, stay away from the map's edges!
I mean you do you, but the very edges of the dungeon can be nasty if you roam around those too carelessly, for the simple reason that enemies can stand beyond the seeable limits of the map, so they can attack you without being seen, or appear outta damn nowhere and kill you when you're with 1HP left and looking for some health. Tread carefully;

2) Loot smart
The more you'll ascend to deeper levels the more you'll realize that keeping NPC boxes and treasure chests closed for later is quite a smart approach to the dungeon: or more precisely, this is always true for what concerns treasure chests (we'll get to it later), while for NPCs I usually keep them for later in early stages, so that I won't damage or lose them during the first fights, while in late game I tend to care less about this aspect. But yeah, better not to run the risk amiright;

3) Take care of your NPCs!
It was not until I reached Floor 5+ that I noticed how helpful NPCs can be when numerous: to prove that, I suggest you to aim at an enemy in the distance while being in wolf form - your melee attack won't reach them, but your NPCs attacks will! You will realize that a dozen of NPCs alone can almost deal as much damage as you do.
Not to mention the fact that they will often take a bullet for you - literally! By running around you in that absolutely horrendous clumsy pattern, they often end up catching a flying arrow that would otherwise hit you, so they're like a big bunch of higgledy-piggledy roaming bodyguards. Better keep them alive! Try and keep them safe in your shield or lean forward and do yourself their bodyguard. (Note: at the end of every boss chamber, everyone's health is restored). Also try and play it safer: less close-range, less running-around-full-berserk, things should get better :)

4) Don't underestimate mana and/or mana regeneration:
Well that's pretty much it, don't go and take for granted that choosing "+15% health" is wiser than "+30% mana": personally, I pick health for the first 2-3 stages, but when the map starts getting real packed and messy, running out of mana is something you don't want to risk. You're gonna need to use your skills a lot, so my advice would be: health health health, then you should start going mana - health - mana - health - mana...
High stats of mana regeneration are good allies too;

5)Barrels!!
So you might have noticed that there are different types of barrels in the game: some of them are explosive, some others unleash a poisonous cloud, others just contain loot.
I really like the first ones in particular, because hitting them in proximity of a mini-boss or a huge crowd of monsters (or just monsters with lots of HP) helps making the fight much quicker and easier, for it deals a huge damage in a small amount of time. Saves a lot of time and effort. Try to use them strategically;

6)Chests!! :D
as I previously mentioned in point 2, one thing I do that sometimes saves the match is not opening all the treasure chests as soon as I see them: while I don't pay much attention to it in the first stages, getting further down in the game often implies that things can get rough and you may be left with 3HP and strive for that health potion that can save your life, ...and that is why you saved that treasure chest unopened. Treasure chests always contain a load of potions of all types and dimensions, but when left on the ground, said potions will disappear in a short while (unlike coins). Keep them safe! You can open them all in a later moment;

7)(a VERY personal one) Keep in mind: you DON'T HAVE to wipe every single map!
And this is specifically aimed to the very last stages like 7 or 8. Goodchances are that you will get killed when wiping out those last floors because things get reeeeal messy and crowded and annoying. What I've never thought of in 50+ in-game hours is that waiting for the slime to appear, kill it and leaving godspeed is perfectly okay and reasonable: this kind of approach got me reaching stages I've never reached before, so if your equipment has reached a good level, if you have enough NPCs, then just GO AND FINISH THIS MOFO OF A GAME ALREADY!!

That's pretty much all from me, those were my two-cents I wanted to share, hoping some of them will be helpful :))

8) [Bonus round] Yet another paragraph about TRAPS:
I've read tons of those, but imma just repeat it once more: destroying monuments (like the one with a cross, or a skull, or the serpents) is pretty much worth it, they generally spawn melee-only skeletons which can drop nice pieces of equipment and give EXP, while ground traps triggered by stepping on them have the sole and only purpose of annoying the hell out of you - they don't give experience, don't drop sh1t, and are packed with those super
duper
immensely
annoying
and
detested
and
lot-of-damage-dealing
ARCHER
SKELETONS!
They are never worth triggering on purpose :)

good guide brother. to anyone actually interested in playing this game, Druid is definitely the #1 option. Back when I played this game years back, Druid was the only class i could easily (compared to other classes) beat the game with. When you win the game gives you the option to continue. At this point you'll over-level and be super tanky with defense and will take a solid 15 minutes to die to the monsters that don't get any stronger past level 10! Another thing you'll recognize is that speed is paramount.

-Necromancer is strong but it doesn't have speed
-default archer is super strong and requires actual mouse precision, but it dies super easily
-any of the warrior classes are kinda slow, i think there's one with a speed passive (use that warrior)
-for shaman though Druid is where its at. easy achievement
