It's cheap, it's cheesy, but it works.

Intro and Warnings
This guide will instruct you on how to attain the Career mode score achievements quickly and easily. In particular, we're focusing on six specific achievements which I will detail below.

But first, the disclaimers.

This guide involves making minor modifications to a particular game file. If you are not comfortable doing this, do not continue with this guide. Modding game files incorrectly can lead to an inoperable game or corrupted saves.

ALWAYS create backups of any files you intend to modify and store them in a safe location.

I am not responsible for anything that may go wrong with your game as a result following this guide.

Because of this, I DO NOT recommend modifying your game files.

That said, here's what you do.
The File
The file you're looking for is called simGameConstants.json and you will find it in this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\

You can open this file using Notepad. Again, please be sure to create a backup of this file before making any changes.
First Change
We are going to make two changes. First, look for:
"GameLength" : 1200,

Default Career games last for 1200 days, but with what we're doing there is no reason to wait so long. Change the value to a much smaller number:
"GameLength" : 5,
Second Change
Next look for the following:
"SystemsVisitedScorePerUnit" : 500,

To achieve the Kerensky rank, you need to finish your Career with at least 784,000 points. One of the ways to score points is by visiting many different systems. What we're going to do is change the amount of points you get for visiting a single system:
"SystemsVisitedScorePerUnit" : 784000,

That's it! Now save and close the simGameConstants file.
Now What?
Launch the game. At the main menu select Career, then New. To make it easy on yourself, select enough difficulty modifiers so that your total multiplier is equal to 1. Make sure one of those options selected is Iron Man so you can pick up the related achievement.

Create your character with whatever stats you want, it doesn't matter. Once you're officially in game and looking at the Argo, you will already have more than enough points to get everything. Why? Because the planet you start at counts as your first explored system, so the game gives you 784,000 points right off the bat. You can double check your points by clicking on the day timer in the upper left corner.

Now just wait the five days (or however many days you put in the first change). Your Career will end and you'll bank six new achievements instantly.

To back up JAKLE, you CAN change the game length to something really short... or you can just give yourself several extra years to keep playing, or crank up the opposition's power. You'll probably have more fun actually playing the game than going out of your way for a glorified .png. And again, it's not modders who made "achievements meaningless", it was the entire system of achievements themselves. If you want someone who's really showing off how pointless achievements are, just look at the hundreds of "3000 achievements for idling" games on Steam.

These comments. LOL. I wouldnt do this, I like to track the things i have actually done, But I disagree with commentators that you shouldnt be able to mod it. If anything, You should be able to change your game length IN GAME and not have to use the files in the first place. The Achievement system is literally pointless anyways, Its about playing the game and playing your way, The devs put these arbitrary achievements in the game, "complete chapter 1 or 2 or 3 etc" Is just dumb. Like ok I played the game....Thanks?

Wow, the salt is real in the comments. Guys play the game how you want, if you want to cheese it then cheese it, if not then don't. But don't get upset when someone posts up the information on how to do it.

Devs' fault for making a broken game and never bothering to fix their shit after two years. I'm all for playing the game legit but it's not my fault I was sold a malfunctioning product.

Doesn't get much lower than this.......

I heard you can't get Kerensky rank anyway without mods.

Stuff like this is making me want encrypted save and game files instead of .json. What is the point of showing off your "kerensky level" award if there is jack shit behind it in terms of actual work put into it?:steamfacepalm:

This kind of thing is exactly why modding gets conflated with cheating...

The one useful thing I learned from this though, is that you can set your career to however long you feel like it should last. If you want a shorter game, set it lower. If you're having too much fun to stop, set it longer. Not for the achievements, but just to custom tailor your mechwarrior career length. With the original Mechwarrior PC game 30 years ago, one thing I didn't like about it was that it basically forces a game over after X number of days and I didn't feel like I had thoroughly explored the galaxy yet. :hoji_smile:
