Description
###### NEW WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION (Dec 9 @ 1:01pm) ######

UPDATE:

The developers of this addon would like to apologize for the previous confusion!

Pending ongoing correspondence here:

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/id/Rayman1103/allcomments

We have made the necessary modifications to make this addon compatible with Left 4 Dead 2!

No modifications of the package were necessary. We just needed to clarify this wasn't an actual "fix".

###### OLD WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION (Nov 24 @ 10:05pm) ######

WARNING:

This user who will remain anonymous (creator of mutation and admin mods):

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/id/<Sega Saturn character with floating arms and legs>1103/allcomments

Is actively trying to censor this addon. They are complicit in another unrelated scandal described in the below video. They have motivation to not act on that scandal because they are a contributor. Another contributor to said project (also unnamed) had the integrity to actually leave. The above user did not. More information is in their profile comments.

You can still subscribe to this addon. The above user is not willing to communicate whatsoever to resolve this like adults. This is the thread they just locked. The thread contains checksums for Valve's 4 correct model files in addition to the bugged ones. How the files got bugged is anyone's guess, but we have multiple testimonies that they are bugged for some people:

PSA: the lamp / Valve content update
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/550/discussions/0/1661194916748450813/

They are not willing to communicate. An addon cannot be "incompatible" if it contains 4 files that are Valve's own original files for the purest means of correcting them.

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

Recently there was a hidden unannounced content update to L4D2 that added this lamp to the game, amongst some other little things. This led to just enough of an increase in the polycount of some maps to result in movement stuttering. It's only a problem with the lamp because of its dome shape suffering from massively excess subdivision, clearly in error. The average human eye won't notice any difference without "mat_wireframe 1". This addon rectifies the subdivsion and therefore the stuttering without removing Valve's new content.

The bugged lamp version has over 20,000 polygons, with RTX graphics cards suffering:

Special thanks to K.U.B.A.S for being the first to notice there was a hidden update and report the stuttering:

Do observe this was, in fact, a hidden unannounced content update:

Following is a conversation between Red Son and Sharples, just in case the conversational tone helps to explain it better:

[22:38]
Red Son™:
Wait that’s true?
The stuttering thing?

[22:42]
Sharples:
Yes, even I get it
There's a lamp in No Mercy as you go down the stairs
they added extra polygons as it was missing textures
trust me, everyone got it
and its causing huge stutters

[22:43]
Red Son™:
I’ll test this out
If this true, then Valve is mega ♥♥♥♥♥♥
If not, then I’m lucky
I’ll try with and without mods
Will mods change polygon

[22:44]
Sharples:
what graphics driver do you have?
and yes, mods will change it
if it changes the lampo

[22:44]
Red Son™:
RX560X

[22:44]
Sharples:
not sure if that'll cause problems
you might be lucky
you shouldnt need to rollback
thats so stupid
for one game...
no
i dont think so

[22:49]
Red Son™:
Well, either you wait for Valve’s to fix their latest failure or you do this
Either way, not sure if it’s going to happen

OH GREAT
NOTES  [author] 9 Dec, 2019 @ 2:53am

NOTES, C5M4 Parade Prop also causes issues, I need a bug fix ASAP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKc7TnbjBM4

This is so strange... I thought that lamp looked unfamiliar but I didn't realize it was a new, official prop. I thought maybe it was the result of one of my HD mods or something.
Red™ 25 Nov, 2019 @ 3:08am
Yup. No stutter happen on my side. Maybe it had something to do with shader cache. Try going in NVidia option and turn if off. Turn off on surface optimization too. Also set performance texture to high/performance and see if it work.

Game cant even read .vtx files. Only dx90.vtx.
NOTES  [author] 24 Nov, 2019 @ 10:30pm
This addon still needs testing, thanks for the report and I need to wait until the other contributors get back online... timezone differences sigh.
ZeqMacaw 24 Nov, 2019 @ 10:29pm
Windows 7.
Also, this workshop item's files do not contain "lamp_floor_arch.dx90.vtx"; they contain "lamp_floor_arch.vtx", as well as some empty files within the cfg folder. -.-
NOTES  [author] 24 Nov, 2019 @ 10:26pm
ZeqMacaw, are you on Windows or Linux? Thanks for the info.
ZeqMacaw 24 Nov, 2019 @ 10:23pm
I just re-verified my L4D2 files and checked my entire L4D2 folder tree and every VPK within it. There are no new lamp_floor_arch model files. The only ones in the game currently are exactly the same as the ones in this workshop item, except for the game using ".dx90" in the vtx file name.
