It got it's name because it's special ability.

This agile ship can get a lot of energy from electrical storms and lightnings. For safety, this ship has several medium reactors. In combat, it is rather a supporter than a fighter. Researchers are working on using Thunder's speciality in the reverse way...Charging it up, and send other ships to hell with huge lightnings.

By the way it is not that lost on battlefield. It has 4 lvl 2 and a lvl 3 cannon looking forward, 2 lvl 2 cannons looking bacwards, and 2 lvl 1 guns are looking also backwards.
It is vulnerable to small and huge ships.
