The Raider Fighter was a type of attack craft utilized by raiders, pirates, and mercenary groups who operated in the depths of space. The Raider, being mostly used by outlaws and criminals, was a bare bones ship containing just the essentials without any advanced features.
Lightly armored and lightly armed, in a one-on-one fight with another fighter it will almost certainly lose, however the Raider is favored by pirate groups because of its disposability and low cost.

“Raider fighters are primarily used by pirates, raiders, and other "outlaw" groups to attack and capture or destroy unarmed civilian merchant starships using hit-and-run tactics. They are rarely used in combat against other fighters.”
