I could write up a basic overview of the best gear pieces. I will say this right now, though: in most cases just having solid Vigilante pieces (available in the questionite store) is enough for most high-level content, and the only real purpose farming like the absolute strongest gear would be so that you can do better than anyone else in the cosmic fight.
The one exception to that, where having really strong gear is essential, is if you're going to be playing a leading tank role in the fight. Even then, the main reason for that is to give you a little more leeway for you to choose between blocking and attacking, as well as better damage and threat to keep the cosmic boss on you.
One run we had a Radiant as our healer and a Devastator as melee dps. It really comes down to teamwork and coordination.

If they're a Ranged DPS, they might very well be more powerful than their freeform counterparts. Their main issue of a lack of self-heals won't come through on a team, considering the supply of healing devices this lair drops, as well as the healer. Melee DPS might have it a bit harder due to bosses being quite deadly up-close, unless properly spacing yourself from the tank.
AT Tanks can also work, though their situation is a bit more unusual, and will likely need a quick and flexible healer. The behemoth, with enough support, can serve as a great main-boss tank, while I've heard the glacier is actually very good at off-tanking the mobs. Like with DPS, it will probably need to be played defensively, and use a lot of pots.
I don't think I could really recommend a Healer AT, however. A good healer will need a heal, shield, and revive to work well, and I doubt any AT has all three of those. Multiple AT healers could work maybe?
