Super HD Planet Earth

Description
Our wonderful pale blue dot, realized in ultra-high fidelity.

This model weighs in at over 300k tris and was both displacement mapped for fully 3D terrain, and includes bump mapping for further detail. This model also has specular mapping, emissive textures for night-side lights, a separate bodygrouped mesh for clouds, and bump mapping for the clouds.

Important note: the fancy atmosphere you see in most of the preview images is NOT part of the model. The atmosphere was achieved using volumetric lights. I have added an experimental fake atmosphere which is part of a bodygroup - while it does not look nearly as good and has night-side glowing, it's still quite servicable.

Please comment any issues you can see so I can fix them, assuming I'm not being mega lazy.

doesn't look very good, might just have to adjust lighting though

Apparently the earth doesn't appear when I load it into a model

how did you do the volumetric atmosphere?

A little bit of bloom for the night lights work too. The actual haze can be done post-process because bloom in Source engine is just meh.

Hey, you got the right idea there. It's mostly trial and error, and for more detailed appearances I'll use multiple lights to get a nicer looking color gradient.

Hello! I used this model here! Thank you! I tried playing with volumetric lighting myself but I couldn't make the edges sharper. I'll definitely have to work more on that. https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2780802350

Ah. It really is just playing with volumetric lighting.

Ah, gotcha. How exactly did you manage to make the atmosphere via volumetric lights tho? I can't seem to replicate what you did.

You'll need to disable the atmosphere layer, which is a bodygroup

I wonder tho, is there any way to make other side pitch black with nothing but the city lights?
