This is a city builder’s map based on Buffalo, New York and Niagara Falls. The falls are within the 25 squares, but far enough away from the start square that they don’t interfere with your city.

There are a few features built in that will help the city mayor get started. The Canadian/American border crossings are toll booths, which give you a steady income. To make them functional, they are supported by water and power. This is good, but can also be a bit deceiving. The ones near the falls are not connected to your city, but will be reported in the power and water status. The other set are at the mouth of the Niagara River and pipes and power lines extend into the start square to get you started.

Establishing shipping was a bit of a problem. Lake Erie is nearly 100 meters higher in elevation than Lake Ontario. So it’s truly a lake on this map with “sea level” set for Lake Ontario. In real life, the lakes are connected by Welland Canal, which allows ships to bypass Niagara Falls to complete a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. The canal has eight locks to get ships up and down the slope.

To get ships to the city I have built in the canal, but, since the game does not have working locks, they have to climb and descend on their own power. Fortunately, the game gives them enough power to do so, though the ride is not always smooth. Caution, the Ship Path Anarchy mod was required to get the canal working. If you try to edit the ship path, you will need that mod to reconnect it. It should work without the mod as long as you don’t mess with the ship path.

A note, mainly for BonBonB should he decide to review this map. The Welland Skyway crosses over the canal, but it is not high enough on this map to allow the cruise ships to pass under without crashing. That’s because the ships levitate a few meters above the water level of the canal. I chose not to raise the road and rail bridges higher, since it looked rather ridiculous when they were high enough. Game players won’t see this issue unless they’re using the 81 tiles mod. There is also a nonsensical on/off ramp under the skyway. This serves to give the traffic that enters the map and then want to turn around to go back out a place to do that without clogging the first interchange.

I have used props from the Park Life DLC, but if you don’t have that DLC they will not load but that will not interfere with the map’s function. If you do have the DLC, some of them are in the hills outside of the 25 tiles. You may notice cars heading up the dirt farm road. That’s where they are going. They are either going camping, or heading for a couple of viewpoints out there. It’s a good spot for your nature reserve if you use the 81 tiles mod.

Does this include the Black Rock canal/locks and the Erie Canal (or the remains of it)?

Great map! Can't wait to try it out! Just got back from Niagara and had an itch to build the city!

Looks really nice.. But how do you NOT have a barrel as one of the required items. Next stop. Harry Houdini museum. Great job.
