Create a Custom Binding
This guide is designed to help users create a custom controller binding to fix unresponsive controls, in particular thumbstick functions for pitch, roll, yaw, and vertical movement.

The guide was created using Oculus Touch controllers, but should work with any standard VR controller.

All of this will be performed on the desktop SteamVR application, though it is possible to access these settings from the in-headset SteamVR application.

Step 1: Start SteamVR

Step 2: Open the SteamVR Settings and select Devices and Controller Settings

Step 3: In Controller Settings, select Show More Applications, then Aircar

Step 4: If there are listings under Community Bindings, you may simply be able to select one of these and set it as active and skip the rest of these steps.
Otherwise, select Edit under the Current Binding.

Step 5: Press the [+] next to one of your Joysticks and select "Joystick"

Step 6: In the Joystick listing, select "None" next to "Position"

Step 7: Select "Ptich.Roll" or "Vertical.Yaw". The standard control scheme is Vertical.Yaw on the left stick, and Pitch.Roll on the right stick. You should see the selected setting in the listing.

Step 8: Repeat steps 5-7 for the other joystick (or any other controls you'd like to rebind).

Step 9: Select Save Personal Binding. If you've tested the binding and it works, you can consider publishing it to the Workshop for others to use. You should now see your modified binding in the list.

Step 10: Exit out of Controller Settings and try out your new bindings!

On the intro screen, it’s says “X” to view controls, and “A” to start the game.
But when I click X, nothing happens. Per the bindings, X is correctly bound to boost (which works in-game).
Am I missing something?

i would love just a quick update that makes the recenter view into a menu button rather than a button on the controller. that would make this infinitely more playable.

I cannot get to step 3. When I click Devices > Controller settings, I just see a tab "start/stop" with some settings for that. No games to select.
I use the Pico 4 headset and have the problem that the joysticks do not respond.

This sorted it for me on Vive Cosmos. Thank you!

Hey, realbeerguy - I'm not certain, but I seem to recall having a similar issue with another app, and what seemed to make a difference was that you could enter the controller binding settings from within VR or from outside VR through the SteamVR desktop monitor application, and only one of those worked for some reason. So, whichever one you're using, try the other one.

After going to Manage Controller Bindings, all I get is "Loading current binding....". It never goes on to the change bindings for Aircar, or any other choice. Any ideas?

Thanks. As of October 2020 the Default Quest key bindings that it ships with still do not work, but the community bindings do.

Thanks for the heads-up, KillKeiko! I remember seeing a SteamVR update message about them changing the bindings interface.
