How to craft the Steam Hardware Beta badges

A guide on how to earn and craft your Steam Hardware Enthusiast and Steam Hardware Beta Candidate badges.

Explanation on how to earn each badge
Join the Steam Universe Group
  • Click on this link right here.
  • Click on the the green button that says "Join Group" (See figure 1.1)

Make 10 friends
  • If you have not done this already, then all you need to do is find 10 willing people to add friends with for this badge.
  • The Steam Universe Group Thread is a good place to find 10 friends quickly.

Create a public Steam Community profile
  • Go to your profile and click on the button that says "Edit Profile"
  • Go to the right side and click on the tab called "My Privacy Settings" (See Figure 2.1)
  • Check Public for Profile Status and click save (See Figure 2.2)
  • Click the button "Save Changes" (See Figure 2.3)

Launch and play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode
If you have a controller:
  • Connect your controller to your computer
  • Launch Big Picture (See Figure 3.1) and make sure to be using your controller to scroll through and select a game
  • Once the game has launched use your controller to click something, or play the game with it
If you don't have a controller:
  • Go to this website[headsoft.com.au] and scroll down to Downloads and click "VJoy Virtual Joystick Driver v1.2 (Includes key to joy application)" and download it
  • Open it up and use these exact settings for configuration
  • Once in Big Picture use the right arrow key to select library, then use Numpad 2 to go to your library and launch a game (Note: This method doesn't work for all games)

Jump through some legal hoops by completing this form required for beta participation
  • Go here and fill in your information for each box
  • Read the Beta Test Agreement, check the box that says "I agree AND am 13 years of age or older AND I declare the above entered address to be accurate" and click the green submit button

Level 3 Badge was only designed for those 250 winners of the steam machine prototype. I to believe that why they did it as 250xp too. I'm currently displaying it on my profile.
