-You are not required to use powerups for their optimal purposes. For example, a Cannon shot does deal fairly heavy damage to cores, and it is possible to reflexively remove some bullets from your path with an Erase item instead of a Repel.
-The Spawner effect is lost when you take a hit, so only obtain it if you plan to proceed through much of the fight "hitless".
-If you're using a mouse and keyboard (and are quick enough), you can alternate between using the arrow keys to fire precisely in cardinal and diagonal directions -- and using the mouse to aim accurately at things in ANY direction.
- Xulgon demands your respect.
-Cannon shots' splash damage makes them better for destroying pixels than destroying cores.
-Double-gun powerups immensely increase the damage you do to cores and other large targets, but are a bit too spread out to dig through tiny pixels faster. You can, however, use one to make a larger hole to conveniently fire through.
-You cannot shoot or collect anything while faded via Fade powerup.
-The Erase and Zone/Purge powerups are best for permanently removing particularly dangerous or annoying bullets (namely ones that shoot more bullets at you). One Zone/Purge item can do this repeatedly for a while.
