I use this block as a City Center. You can easily expand it by adding more roads. The 8-block grid allows to use maximum zoning and adding all necessary service buildings.
I try to avoid left-turning where I can. You can remove traffic lights and prohibit left-turning with Traffic Manager Mod.

The Pedestrian Underpass sometimes needs a flat underground.
