Restricted Rock Paper Scissors, a gambling game that's simple on the surface, but beneath it hides a depth of strategy, cunning, alliance, and backstabbing.
The gambling event is held on the "ship of hope", Espoir, and was originally played by roughly 100 people at a time.
Those invited to play all have one thing in common, being buried in large debts averaging $30,000, with no hope of ever paying them off.
All who participate have all of their external debts cleared, a chance at starting life anew.
The most skilled or fortunate players leave with a clean slate, or even wealthy, but many others end with more debt than they started with.
Anyone unlucky enough to finish without the requisite three stars are taken to a labor camp, or suffer a worse fate still, to work off their newly-accrued debt.

Restricted Rock Paper Scissors is adapted from "Suffering Pariah Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor" (Gyakkyou Burai).
