VTO-1

Description
This is a pre-prototype experiment designed by Kerbin RoboNautics.

It is highly suggested you DO NOT attempt to fly this craft.

The VTO-1 was commissioned as a VTOL heavy lifter by the Kerbin Armed Forces however was soon abandoned as the project seemed “destined for disaster.” The Kerbin RoboNautic management board however did not agree and told the KRN engineers to continue the project. Despite the best work of the KRN engineering team the aircraft simply would not fly horizontally and was prone to krakenesk behavior. By this point the KRN board had decided that they had sunk way too much money in to give up that easily. They told the engineers to “Make the thing fly, we don’t care what it takes.” And after a heated discussion in the bathroom of which KRN swears no recordings exist, a different approach was needed. It was decided that jet engines were the way of the future and so 8 of them were duct taped to th… I mean “attached properly” to the outside of the craft. To combat the instability, stability wheels were shoved through the fuselage. No one knows who exactly is responsible for this idea, however many mohawk jokes were made. As the rotors were prone to exploding during horizontal flight they are jettisoned after take off to slightly reduce the risk of explosion. 3 brave pilots were forcibly strapped into the cockpit and informed that “it's probably in your best interest to land”. Having had prior warning that he would be, what many are calling “abducted and forced to pilot against his will,'' one pilot manually bolted parachutes onto the outside of the craft the night before take off. The rest of the story cannot currently be released due to an ongoing court case. We are however allowed to disclose that VTO stands for Vertical Take Off. There is no L for a reason… Rest assured that the 3 pilots did walk away, albeit with many choice words for the board of directors. This has been this week's news on the one and only KNN.
