Incaite [Co-op]

Description
PLEASE READ
Incaite is a purely logical Co-op map with only a few portal surfaces. It consists of three sequences/rooms with an increasing difficulty curve. Each sequence ends with a door - don't forget that in Co-op both players need to stay next to the door. I marked the trigger area on the floor and added a checkmark that indicates if both players are standing together in the trigger zone. The doors stay open once you passed them.

Difficulty: Medium - Hard

IMPORTANT info in case you're missing that mechanic:
In Co-op, narrow floor surfaces need an initial shot while standing in line with the surface. Once a portal is placed, the other player is able to overwrite it from any angle.

In this map the orientation of the floor portals isn't important because the laser is centered. Don't be upset that you can't switch the orientation as you might expect - I used a better portal magnet instead, that helps to improve your experience drastically. Please also care for the coloured frames around the signs, they indicate which dropper/door is connected to them.

Known issues:
- while trying to overwrite the other player's portal, you can accidently erase it instead. That's not intended and caused by the weird engine behaviour in Co-op. You can prevent that entirely if you shoot in the center of the portal when you're going to overwrite it
- apart from the first textbox, the other ones will only be shown to the player who runs into them first. They aren't important at all, feel free to inform your partner about their content
- cube climbing is a bit worse in Co-op - due to the engine again. I hope it isn't a big deal for you.

List of unintended things:
- glitches (especially Co-op exploits like passing grating or fizzlers)
- cube tossing with wild mouse movement
- speedrun techniques and ninja moves

Useful stuff:
- you can play Co-op alone if you have no real partner. Everything in this map can be easily executed as solo player. Check this simple guide if you want to learn how it works
- for long distance shots, you can use the mouse wheel for better aiming
- the console command "+remote_view" activates a permanent view of the other player's screen (instead of pressing TAB)
- "host_timescale 1.5" (or other values) can help to shorten the time for walking in sequence 3
- if the laser colission doesn't get disabled as it should, feel free to use this console command to disable it: sv_player_collide_with_laser 0

The used song is "Simply Think" by Jamez Gillman.

Huge thanks to SpKi for playesting and Mystical Λce for technical help.
Also thanks to all people (Libbybapa, Teo, Dark Rozen, Fumbly Bumbly, Mikeastro, ...) who gave me feedback for the thumbnail and tried checking workshop files!
Special thanks to Nobody No-One who gave me the idea for the map in 2019.

Thank you for making it  Favorited !

Thanks Leo! Nice stream, I'm glad you did it in the end. In this case, a part of the difficulty also comes from the intimidating map structure. I'm sure if players would start with Seq. III (doors open, no "exit" catchers, maybe even with 5 instead of 6 surfaces, since one of them isn't needed in Seq. III), it would be easier. After solving the 2 similar rooms, it can feel overwhelming - although it adds only 1 new connection in Seq. III.

You did a few bad ninja things, so I want to clarify this. As example, on the stream yesterday, you solved Seq. I & Mike did awkward stuff (24:45). Instead of speedrunning nonsense, you could have easily helped him to shoot the grating surface by standing on the button, then you could do the climb and ignore the cube position, since Mike already has the other portal. No haste, jumping through the surface while grabbing etc. needed. Nothing I'd patch, but I want to avoid a false impression.

I'm not sure how to feel about this last comment, how dare you imply we didn't make ANY progress in two years!? Now we have finally solved the whole thing, joke's on you :P
More seriously, it's a truly fantastic map. Really intricate, although we did overcomplicate the 3rd sequence. There's just something about co-op maps, especially challenging ones, that makes them very hard to wrap your mind around. At least, that's how I feel. In the end, we were rather close to the solution but realising the main problem and core moves took a long time. Very nice work of course!

"Did you see Mikeastro's co-op stream together with Leomievs? They played the map last week and already solved the first two sequences. It was a blast to watch and I'm curious if they can "beat" the map in the future." - Narkodes 2019 ... & Narkodes 2021

No worries, I'll publish an Euthenics remake in the future, really liked the solution of it.
For now my focus is mostly on Single Player maps, but as you see, this one here got a significant update. It depends on my mood, spare time and so on. I hope you enjoyed it, thanks for playing! I'm looking forward to the full run.

Hi, Narkodes! And I'm glad to see you.
Also, I'm glad that you continue to make cool maps. It's just great.

Yes, you're right about my video.
Now I see moments where I could make the passage faster and more efficient.
The thing is, I recorded the video right after I solved the riddle in my head.
Besides, I was in a hurry because I was afraid that I might be outstripped xD
After all, I have a competitor!
As far as I understood, µ got close to the solution.
It may seem ridiculous, but I really wanted to solve this puzzle first.
As a result, the video did not turn out very well. Haste makes waste.
However, it doesn't matter, because I'm going to record the full walkthrough, as promised.

P.S. Still waiting for "Euthenics" and "Window Walker 3" remakes ;)

Hey ShinDog, glad to see you! Thanks for the video. Just as reminder: You don't have to toss the cube through the laser field, you can simply drop it without skill. . Apart from that concern, which doesn't change the logic behind it, everything is intended! There are multiple ways that lead to the solution and I believe there are slightly quicker variants, but the key points of the logic are the same. Especially the ~first half of your video can be achieved with different methods. Hard to say which is "the fastest". Great work! :)
