Description
Are you afraid of the dark?...

'Well, you shouldn't be! The darkness is your good, good friend...as you'll soon find out.'

-----

Inspired partly by an early boss level in Combat! and a particularly vivid nightmare which I had after playing Slender, I wanted to recreate that same sense of fear and horror so often found missing in a survival horror game such as KF2.
Your (team's) goal is simple: Survive without losing your bearings. Or after you have lost them. I don't care; just do whatever it takes to survive, even if that means throwing your teammates in front of you as a meatshield while you run towards God knows where...

Of course, that's harder than it looks. Built to be structurally symmetrical, this map is sure to pose a challenge to experienced KF1/2 players. Kiting teams may find kiting in almost-absolute darkness to be fairly difficult, while teams attempting to camp may somehow find themselves quickly overwhelmed.
In short, running this on normal difficulty can result in players running around like headless chickens. A successful 6 player HoE run - if that was even possible - would be quite the feat.

Instead of explaining this map's features, I feel it is better for players to discover these features themselves. A few hints, however, might help to keep them alive for just a little longer:
  1. Not all that glitters is gold, and the same goes for lights: Be wary of what appears too good to be true.
  2. Ammo boxes may appear and tempt the greedy, but under no circumstances should one venture to pick them up alone...
  3. If you've ran into an invisible wall, it probably means you're at the edge of the map. I didn't add an outdoor background image so that immersion wasn't ruined.
  4. [For camping teams]: There might not be a 'best' place to camp. Even if there was, however..it might not be very well lit, if at all...
  5. [For kiting teams]: Do not - under any circumstances - run off alone. The darkness has a habit of claiming those who wander alone...

Again, night-vision goggles and some particular weapon(s/types) are your friend. Careful rationing of your torch batteries may also help in preventing you from joining those eternally lost and wandering in this labyrinth.

Many thanks to Kasder who taught me the basics of map-making in the SDK and also playtested an early version of this map with Lam which had no lights at all. Y'all are getting off easy with a few lights in this version, but it's still a good challenge for those confident of beating any map on Sui/HoE difficulties ;)

Edit: Updated this map just to change the filename and avoid errors in loading.
Edit 2: Actually completed this map on Hard with 6 players! Added more lights and made some changes to existing lights for balancing ;)
Final edit: Kas cleaned up the map and made some minor changes. Quite likely there'll be no more updates to this map - enjoy! And try to beat it on Sui/HoE, I haven't seen a successful run yet ^^

Nope! But you might be scared at the first light you see in the dark - especially if it turns from yellow to red :p

Scary map. Makes me reminiscent of the first KF2 map I published.
