Foreword

If you just want to get the account deletion over with, scroll down to the next section.

If you would like to know why you should not support Epic Games Store, read below.

As most of you are aware by now, Epic Games Store has been engaging in anti-consumer practices by buying out exclusivity from publishers (instead of earning their customers through having a better storefront or pro-consumer practices). It is unethical to make potential customers think they are getting a product on one storefront, and then switch it for another at the last minute.

If you feel that this is not okay and you want to make a statement, then stop supporting them. Speak with your wallets. Make a stand based on principle.

Do not buy any game that is Epic-exclusive. Do not even acquire them through illegal means (because then they'll blame their poor sales on that, instead of their own bad practices).

That is the only way they'll understand that the consumers are not fine with this.

Step 1: Contact EGS

Your first step is to contact Epic Games Store.

Your email on the Epic account needs to be verified in order to do so, so make sure it's already verified.

epicgames.helpshift(dot)com/a/epic-accounts/?s=epic-accounts&f=how-can-i-delete-my-epic-games-account&contact=1

You should see a form like this:

Fill in the form and then hit "Submit".

Now the first part is done.

Step 2: Confirm your account deletion

Now, Epic Games Player Support will send you an automated email.

It should look like this:

Follow the instructions that they have given in the second half of the email.

Copy this chunk of text and make the necessary edits to it:
I agree to deleting all information associated with [INSERT YOUR EPIC GAMES ACCOUNT EMAIL HERE] and [INSERT YOUR EPIC GAMES DISPLAY NAME HERE], including all in-game progress, purchases and data.

And then send that back to them by replying to the email.

You will then receive an automated reply that looks like this:

Step 3: Wait for them to review your request

If you've been a long-time Fortnite player, you're probably suffering from withdrawal right now and want to go back to it. You must resist, because this is for the greater good.

That was a joke. But seriously, this is for the best.

Epic Games Player Support should respond to you within the same day or the day after, provided they aren't swamped by support requests.

When they do, it should look like this:

When you have received this email, then you have succeeded in deleting your Epic Games account.
Huzzah!

However, if you did not verify your email address before requesting account deletion, then they will send you this instead:

Verify your email address on the Epic Games Store first, then reply to that email to continue with your account deletion.

Epilogue

Congratulations, you are now done and may continue with your gaming life knowing you have chosen to take a stand.

Or you don't really care and just wanted to delete your EGS account because of the whole fiasco about them spying on your Steam data (which is arguably true, but not as bad as the original Reddit post made it out to be).

More info on that here:

I know a lot of people wanted Epic Games Store to become a competitor to Steam. And competition is supposed to be good for us, as it should make businesses try to entice us to use their services/products by coming up with better services/products. But buying out exclusivity is not the ethical way. As stated earlier, it is unethical to make potential customers think they are getting a product on one storefront, and then switch it for another at the last minute.

Maybe when the people in charge of Epic Games Store realize this, and finally come up with a pro-consumer business model, then they can be called a true competitor.

Until then, I'd advise sticking to Steam, and also checking out GOG, which is DRM-free, so I highly recommend it.

Great job with this guide, the only unfortunate thing is when games that were originally on Steam get acquired by EPIC (Rocket League, Fall Guys, etc) you are required to use an EPIC account to sign in and there is no getting around that.

I actually used to play Rocket League quite a lot but ever since they made that requirement I just stopped, along with any other game that forces me to log in to EPIC services to function.

I didn't even know this, but I have been a steam user all my life anyway, and I just never made an Epic Shit account anyway. Now if my friends ask me again to make an Epic Shit account, I have 1 more reason to reject. Thanks lmao
