Description
Blood Red Snow
is the first winter mission in the Ragnarok'44 mission series.
This mission's was inspired and is based on a battle from a book called Blood Red Snow[www.barnesandnoble.com]
Set on the Ostfront the Soviets have the advantage where 6 Strategic Points are within their reach, allowing them to capture them quickly and build their forces to staggering numbers.
The Germans (Player) is set behind a small village further south which
contains 2 strategic points that you can easily capture, your going to be on the defense in this one at the start.

The Soviets will come for those two strategic points with a ferocity and numbers, expect large numbers of infantry, and tanks, setup your defenses (AT guns, & mortars) as soon as you can, occupy the village with a couple of 12 man squads, mg squad, and couple of AT Squads.
You'll want to build your logistics right away so you can enable the ability to build statics.
Once you have defeated the initial Soviet attack, build your infantry, and tanks, and head for the village the Soviets occupy, setup static mortars which will bombard the Soviets into submission and keep them at bay.
Then capture their SP's, head to their base clear it out and finish them!

This mission is difficult, not meant for a beginner to Ragnarok'44.

What is Ragnarok'44?

DESCRIPTION
A WW2 Rts (Real Time Strategy) Mission/Mode for Iron Front in Arma3 (IFA3).
Ragnarok'44 is a RTS mission/mode based on Window Of Opportunity[www.armaholic.com] "The battle from above!" mission mode by Mondkalb, modified with his permission.
Command, Build, Recruit, Capture, Incarnate, Seize & Destroy your enemy!

FEATURES
  • Command with a camera as a general pointing and clicking what
    and where you want your forces to go and do.

  • Build buildings which will allow you to recruit various types
    of infantry, vehicles, tanks, and static weapons.

  • Establish a logistics to gain better\faster resources, upgrade the level
    and skill of infantry, vehicle, and tankers, as well as increase efficiency of fuel, and ammo usage by the AI.

  • Play as any of your forces in 1st/3rd person by incarnating into them,
    command a whole squad, be a lone soldier, play as a tanker, or just be a driver of a vehicle.

  • Capture strategic points on the battlefield which will earn you more
    resource points allowing you to build more forces and upgrade them.

  • Build your own Ragnarok'44 missions on any map!

  • Fight enemy AI Commander (Hetman A3 (Artificial Commander) that will
    seize strategic points, gather resources, build and deploy his own army, defend,

Yes because you had incarnated into him and control him, your not him, so hit your teamswitch key and choose the commander as thats who you are.
You'll be back at the villa where you see the two officers at the table, from there just scroll your action menu, and go to the commander screen and your back.

Only way the mission will fail is if the enemy destroys and or captures your base, any other questions let me know. Cheers!

The mission fails when a soldier i'm playing as dies, is this supposed to happen?

Thanks, ya quite a bit went into it, check out the videos of the building of it then the major update where i added the trench system. Ya it is pretty neat the author is still alive, some of the things he has seen during his wartime at a young age isn't something i couldn't fathom, why i highly reccomend that book, he makes it personal as he lost alot of friends he fought with that are in the book.

The book "Blood Red Snow"

But i own the hard cover, book is a fantastic read if your into the eastern front, the author was a German Mg42 gunner on the Ostfront, and secretly sowed his diary into his trench coat through the entire war, send his pages off to his sister in Germany when he went on leave.
But the story starts off on october 1942 on the way to the ostfront, he was riding in a train sitting on a bail of straw, train was attacked a couple of times by an IL sturmovik if i recall correctly, but overall story is descriptive and graphic!
Author was wounded 7 times in his tour, must read a 318 page book with some pictures in the middle.

"The acrid powder is sucked into my nose and fills my lungs. But i live, and so does Swina I can hear his convulsive coughing behind me. And there it is again the rattle and the roaring as steel tank tracks grind squealing on their rollers. A deathly noise! I press myself like a worm onto the ground. In the trench everything goes dark the steel monster is parked on top of me, blocking out the daylight."

Pg 92 4 T34 tanks penetrated the German trench lines and the author and his mg assistant are in a trench:

"The T-34 turns its turrent towards our position and comes at us, its engine roaring. I pull my machine gun into the trench and throw myself down. Grommel and Weichert dash into the bunker. Swina is already lying behind me in the trench.
A harsh metallic shot, and a tank shell explodes exactly where my machine gun once stood. Frozen dirt and hot splinters rain down over my head. There is a loud ringing in my ears and it feels as if my eardrum has just been perforated.

Ya if i recall the story correctly pg 91 in the book, was a hazy morning with limited visibility, the German's 88 was destroyed by 5 t34's, the 88 before it was destroyed managed to kill 1 of the t34s. After the tanks rolled into the village and started churning up the trenches with German soldier's in them. There were 2 German tanks one was badly damaged, along with a sdkfz AA gun shooting at the tanks which made the Russian infantry get off the tanks and take cover.
Story is very descriptive in one part i quote:
"A torn-off leg, still wearing a felt boot, hits the ground only a few metres from us; the blood pumping out of the leg slowly colours the snow red. We look at each other helplessly, our faces flushed."

Man that book messed me up. Wasn't this the one where it was really foggy and the tanks were just rolling overtop the germans smashing them?
