How to Create Invisible Floors, Gates and More In Starbound
By pixelrage
Did you know that there are several invisible items in Starbound that a might help you build things just the way you want? Best yet, you won't need to download mods to use them! Here's a full list. Just one warning: once these items are in your inventory, they can never be deleted (the game will not allow you to select them and put them on the trash icon) -- the only way to get rid of them is to place them on a wall, zap them with the Matter Manipulator, and let the fallen object sit on the ground until it auto-expires. In order to spawn the items in this guide, you will need to be in Admin mode (just type /admin in the game).

Invisible Floors
/spawnitem matterblock
▲ Creates an invisible block that you can not only walk on, but place objects on. If you place it, you'll see an ugly looking purple block... just paint it any color to make it invisible. Paint it with the "invisible color" (the color after white, in your Matter Manipulator's paint mode) to make it reappear again.

This item is good for making objects "levitate" in thin air, or for placing objects that are very long and require more flooring to be placed...but in instances where adding more floor tiles would look ugly. You can also store liquids in it, that will have no visible edges.

The only setback to matter blocks is that when they are painted invisible, any backdrop wall behind them will also appear invisible.
Invisible Lights
/spawnitem invisiblelight
▲ Creates a light source (same strength of /shiplight) except the source is invisible.

/spawnitem invisiblesparker
▲ This is a pretty cool one for builders: this invisible object creates a subtile strobe light effect that fires off once every 5 seconds. It emits a faint yellowish strobe. Be creative in where you place it, and it can add a lot of "mood" to your scene.
Invisible Gates
/spawnitem invisibleand /spawnitem invisiblecountdowntimer /spawnitem invisibledelay /spawnitem invisiblelatch /spawnitem invisiblenot /spawnitem invisibleor /spawnitem invisibletimer /spawnitem invisiblexor
▲ Creates invisible versions of all the gates. They work exactly the same as real gates, with one major issue...they are completely invisible, so you'll have to remember what you placed. You can only see their red and blue dots when in wiring mode, and it will NOT show the actual gate box itself.
Invisible Switches
/spawnitem invisiblepersistentswitch
▲ An invisible version of the persistent switch (/persistentswitch), which will forever stay on or off unless pressed again.

/spawnitem invisiblewallswitch
▲ It's the invisible version of the classic wall switch that can be flipped on or off (up or down).
Invisible Proximity Sensors
/spawnitem invisibleproximitysensor
▲ The invisible version of a Pressure Plate (/proximitysensor), which activates when stepped on.

Matter Blocks will turn invisible when painted which is nice if you want to fill something with no background for a colony deed for instance. And there's copper ladder too, similar to copper platforms except they are invisible as well.

@KittenEggs try Geek's Invisible Logic: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1122829900 -- and Invisible Blocks: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1427632208 -- the bonus about using code is that you have less stuff loading into your game at each startup. Also, if the workshop mod goes down, you won't have to worry about anything happening to your save game files if the mod creator didn't use the same IDs

why can't there just be a workshop addon for this so you don't have to use commands?
