Workaround for vanishing satchels in single player
By Mr. Moyer
You can still select satchels and claymores as secondary weapons, and a few single player missions (i.e. Peru mission 3) "require" you to use them to destroy certain targets, but they VANISH when used. This is how to get around that.

So you need some boom boom power...
In an official update, NovaLogic REMOVED claymores and satchels from the game, because of a problem with people spamming them in multiplayer games and it would cause horrible server lag. You can still select them as secondary weapons, but they just VANISH when you try to set them. They do not appear on the ground and they cannot be detonated because they NO LONGER EXIST as objects in the game.

For multiplayer, the solution is simple: DO NOT select the claymore or satchel as your secondary, just use grenades or the anti-tank rocket to blow something/someone up.

However, a few single player missions still require you to use these explosives to blow up certain objectives. In these instances, grenades will destroy the object but DO NOT always trigger the "objective complete" flag, meaning if you use a grenade you can never clear the mission. Instead, use the anti-tank rocket (obey the LAW!!) to do the job. The explosion sound will probably get stuck in a broken loop, but you should still be able to continue and complete the mission to unlock the next one in the campaign. Additionally, it seems that you must be standing VERY CLOSE to the target for this to work, roughly the same distance you would be if you were placing a satchel instead of using a rocket. In the third Peru mission when you go into the house to destroy the box of drugs, notice when you are close enough the box will LIGHT UP, if you back too far away it will be in shadow. Shoot it with the LAW when it is lit up.

I've tried shooting from far away with the LAW as well and it works perfectly fine as long as you hit the target.

Often times, you don't even need the LAW. Just make sure you have ammo and you can destroy whatever you're trying to destroy. The only thing that doesn't work in that regard is the knife.

I've personally never faced the explosion sound loop bug either.

You can also simply shoot the targets with regular firearms. As long as they're destroyed it'll count.

As far as I can remember, a lot of grenades from the launcher do the job too. So I always select "double ammo" as secondary weapon.

Not fixed by novalogic of course, but I was wondering if someone in the community modded the game to add the functionality for these items back, since the game does have some mods.

LOL no, of course not. This game is ANCIENT and to my knowledge there will be NO MORE work done on it. Removing the explosives from the game was an intentional change by the developers, not a random bug. They did it to balance out multiplayer because too many idiots were spamming explosive charges and it caused the game to lag so bad that everyone else was complaining. Those idiots weren't interested in playing the game, they just thought it was funny to ruin the fun for everyone else as they laughed at how slow they could make the game run - for a while it was absolutely impossible to play. Then the developers just didn't want to spend the time and effort to go back through the code for the single player campaign and repair it so that you no longer need the explosives for those missions because they got lazy.

Any fix for this yet?

Yeah grenades seem to trigger the "objective complete" flag about half the time. So they can work, but if they don't you'll need to quit and restart the mission. The LAW seems to trigger the flag every time - AS LONG AS IT IS "LIT UP" WHEN YOU PULL THE TRIGGER. So sure, bring grenades but just know you're basically flipping a coin that way. :)

Wow lol i was wondering why they weren't showing up, jeez yeah i think whenever i last played this it was before that update was released/applied unless I'm confusing some of the other DF series games, i know there was one of them i didn't own on disk. Hm, well good to know. Thanks!

Lol. I just played that mission and I experienced that issue exactly. Had to use grenades. I actually had the original CD once upon a time and successfully used satchel charges before.

It still feels quite stupid, they could at least disable it in multiplayer and not entirely, because it then breaks the game and people are sad from it. Surprised there is no patch for that after all these years.
