Full disclosure: this is a game i was fortunate enough to play when i was 10 years old back in 1999, i thought it was the coolest thing at the time and i still feel relatively the same about it today, it holds a special place in my memories.

It's 1998 the year of Half-Life, the folks at Ritual Entertainment know what's coming and they want to get ahead of it. Enter "SiN", a Quake 2 engine FPS with the spirit of Duke Nukem 3D ready to show the world what it's made of. Unfortunately for players first impressions were not off to a great start, those who used mirror sites to download a demo on July 26th of 1998 were greeted with a CIH virus. Fast forward to the release in early November of 1998 only a week or two before Half-Life, bugs were plentiful and long load times were dreadful. To those dedicated enough to wait for patches or simply deal with the drawbacks, they came to enjoy a pretty solid romp through Freeport City.

If you're after a 90s era FPS with a kick butt protagonist you've come to the right place! Set in a cyberpunk future of 2037 you will traverse and progress through many city-based locations like abandoned buildings and subways to more mysterious locations like big bad Elexis Sinclaire's own island of horrors.

Sin had a lot of interesting features at the time of it's debut, not only did the game take after Duke Nukem's sense of interactivity your actions in certain levels could actually have a direct impact on others later on and there were also multiple paths to take throughout. This made for some amount of replayability and experimentation, other features include a dynamic and banging soundtrack from Zak Belica that reacts to imminent fire fights and area-specific damage to enemies which also played into your armor system.

It's truly a shame that this game had been overshadowed by Half-Life because it deserved a lot more attention than it got, there was such ambition and character here that is especially worth another look.

You are John R. Blade of the private security force HARDCORPS and it's time you get to the bottom of SinTek's shenanigans, load up your trusty MAGNUM and get to work!
