Description
This mod is no longer supported due to various reasons. It will not recieve any updates.
As of 2021.01.17, this mod still works in the game. If it breaks in future versions of the game - it won't be fixed.



The Leviathan is a large, heavy and powerful Railgun turret, capable of penetrating lots of layers of armor.

Stats:
Size: 5x5x5
Range: 1000m* - explanation why so low for a railgun below
Damage: 34000
Reload time: 15s
Rotation Range: 270 degrees
Max Elevation: 45 degrees
Max Depression: 12 degrees
Projectiles can penetrate up to 8 layers of armor, and deal damage to components inside the ship

Note: Shooting functional blocks, like thrusters, reactors, or anything that isn't an armor block might decrease penetration power!

*Why so little range? I don't think that a range higher than about 1km would be good for balance. I try to make my mods as balanced as possible. I wouldn't like my ships to be vaporized by enemy fire from a ship that's 10km away, where is the fun in that?

Known bugs
-The turret barrel might get rotated by 180 degrees sometimes. To fix this, you need to control the turret and move it slightly, or enable idle movement. If the turret finds a target it will fix as well

As a quick addition, I feel AI should be kept short though... AI targeting can be pretty OP or terrible at extreme ranges.

When I get mod guns/turrets, I crank the ranges to all kinds of far... Like most OKI guns I run with I bump to around 15km and let the inaccuracy be the nerf. Something like the hyperX and large ship railguns are my exceptions because that's their point. A long range hyper velocity shell should be both designed and meta'd to extreme range. My hyperX cannon from OKI is ranged at 50kn... Never has anyone said it was "OP" either.

:I Call me a butt, but I like my extremely delicate and massive guns to be massive guns and not short range pop-guns.

I'll never understand why people make these executive choices to nerf range.

Listen, I'm not trying to be a dick with this, however if you go to get modded guns... You want some big boi ranges. Big boi booms. Not the vanilla weapons. To balance something to vanilla weapons is silly, especially something like a railgun in a space game. Something THIS LARGE is meant to be used at extreme range because it's a massive target to hit and break. You'd never be able to use the gun because by the time you're in 1km, you're being pelted by all kinds of bullets, missiles, and even script run torpedo builds.

the range also ruin the balance due to let say a player got modded weapons that got range of 3 k, the railgun wouldnt be useful than due to the range is too different to be helpful, thank about it being in a pvp server, if you got a sniper vs this than the sniper would win every game specially if they got great speed compare to you

given the fact you got the range so low, i wouldnt consider it a railgun either because a railgun have massive range and damage, you got the damage but i would recommand a range like 5 k ? that would be understandable due to it size and the barrel length but to have it so low like 1 k than that is sad

Would you consider doing dif uploads for different ranges? Love the work. Going to use this one. But would love to see other variants to fit needs. Railguns get a bad rap :D

There you go, increased the range from 900m to 1000m. If I end up increasing it further more, don't expect too much of a range increase

you might want to bump up the range if its a railgun, very short.

@CharlieDingus yep, I blame Keen on this one! :P

@Slye_Fox I was inspired by the railguns from From the Depths, which basically have projectile accelerators (I guess? Dunno what to call them lol) around the barrel, similar to this one
