Description
Only Level 5, this is intended as a bare minimal early game survival base. Except for places where defensive value is critical, Carbon Composite (textured to look like steel) is used as much as possible. The only disadvantage over an above-ground base is the need to drill out the inside after spawning. On the plus side you'll probably get 300+ crushed stone from drilling out the inside which you can then use to make concrete blocks to further expand your base.

Use PgDn to sink this into the ground. Use Home/End to tweak the distance. Best if spawned on level ground, but it can tolerate some unevenness if the entrance is placed at the highest terrain point.

All critical equipment is under the floor.

BP saved with power off so it should spawn unpowered.

Because you'll get a drone attack soon after powering this on, use F4 to load the input container with steel plates or iron ingots and wood or nitrocellulose, then use P and the Devices tab to set up the constructor to make 30mm ammo output directly to the ammo box. This way the guns will be ready to fire within seconds of power-on. (You don't need to dig it out first before doing this, but unless they change something the drone attack shouldn't happen until after you power it on.)

There is also a version with 15mm Miniguns instead of 30mm Cannons which means you can make the ammo in an HV constructor (15mm Bullets) in case you want to take no chances.

  • Max solar panels with 4 capacitors.
  • Two 30mm Cannons can handle the drone attacks on the starter planet.
  • Backup generator and a little fuel storage.
  • Sealed with O2 and O2 Station, so suitable for Arid starts.
  • Large Constructor, 6 Cargo boxes.
  • Wireless Connection.
  • Food Processor and Fridge.
  • Bed
  • Armor Locker
  • Clone Chamber
  • Storage room has space for more containers or container controller/extenders.
  • Empty room for whatever you want.
  • Easy to build onto by extending the hallway behind the cloning chamber.

Should have all the essentials you want for an early base. (Just let me know if I forgot something.)

Ok, I think I'll create both 30mm and 15mm versions. I'll change the description here to advise setting up the constructor to produce ammo output to the ammo box when powered on and the new one will just advise using an HV constructor to make the 15mm ammo.

I have been using exclusively minigun drones for starter bases for all of Alpha 9.2 and never had an issue even with hard difficulty settings unless issues are ones that would stop any turret (Poor line-of-sight, bad terrain, etc). In fact I have had less success with cannon drones effectively taking out drones quickly enough. This is over probably 6 restarts, so it isn't comprehensive, but I do a lot of restarting for testing my own builds :)

For some reason I thought 30mm could be made an a HV constructor but it looks like you're right.

It is possible to load the containers and use the constructor with the control panel and logistics menu even before digging it out and make ammo immediately on power on so that you have ammo before the drones can arrive. I'm just worried that the minigun turrets don't kill the drones before they can get into weapons range but I haven't tested that lately.

I like it, quick critique though: You say make 30mm before powering on but you need a large constructor from a base or CV to make that.

Alternatively you could swap the turrets to Minigun Turrets which take 15mm that can be made in HV/SV Constructors, which would actually allow for making the ammo before powering on. :)
