Donald J. Trump, a famous real estate billionaire, scored a surprise victory against the wife of former president Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton. His focus (as of the time up to 2018) lied on strict right-wing conservative politics, including a strong stance against illegal immigration and for economic growth. He still faced the legacy of George W. Bush's and Barack Obama's terms, his two precedessors, which included the "War on Terror". Trump is (as of 2018) one of the presidents which caused the strongest polar reactions. Only time will tell if he will go down in history as one of the best or one of the worst presidents, which are the attributes given to him by vocal Republican and Democratic voters.

As of Donald J. Trump's terms, the World Wide Web was well established enough to have almost every U.S. citizen able to voice his opinion on the internet, a trend that was seen before in the times since Bill Clinton in the late 1990s but took off in the 2000s. By Trump's time, World Wide Web access was available to nearly everyone worldwide, except in North Korea. This also led, as before with Obama, to presidents getting stronger reactions than ever before.
