T49 light Tank

Description
In the late 40s - early 50s, it was recognized that the 76-mm cannon is no longer enough to fight modern Soviet medium tanks, in particular, with the T-54. And so, in January 1950, the commander of Detroit Arsenal recommended the development of a light tank with a 90-mm smooth-bore cannon on the M41 chassis. New 90-mm gun received an index T123. Initially, it was smooth-bore, but after unsatisfactory test results, where low accuracy was shown, the gun was re-cut into small-sized rifled and assigned an index of T123E3. Two of these guns were installed in the M41E1 turrets, and the tank was designated T49. The tower was changed, it became higher and was equipped with a stereoscopic rangefinder. Also changed ammunition. The gun itself could fire three types of projectiles: high-explosive fragmentation (HE), cumulative (HEAT) and high-explosive armor-piercing (HESH).
