Radiant Help Ai Promoting Units

Description

This mod helps poor Ai players to earn more promotions & experience for their units so they can keep up with the mighty human intelligence they will never reach. It's a complementary module that work perfectly with my other mod "Radiant Better Unit Promotions" but can also be used without it. That mod is taking effect only for difficulties Prince or above.

Actually in beta version. Im still experiencing with this mod : I really like the base exp bonus i gave to Ai players, but for the other parts : free promotions depending of each AI civics progression, im not sure how much and when. You can advise me new ideas about that if you have some.

Seeing AI's player bringing their army with level 2 Promotion units as their most experienced soldiers while im bringing my lvl 5, 6 or 7 make me internally die every time and it always ends up killing my pleasure of fair fights/wars. I can't bear it anymore, I tried not chasing after xp to be fair but ... that's not fun, not even right.

The only solution i found so far is to give AI something we won't have. A one-sided solid bonus in their favor.
I have to be very subtile ... we want something that "seems" around fair, something that simulate the fact we are chasing xp on our side, protecting our best promoted units like precious things, as the same experience speed rate any humain player would do that. And ofc not something that we would regret.

I was thinking about a mod affecting only the prince to deity difficulties (i don't want to traumatize casual and rookie players that's not the idea).
Giving exclusively a 3 fold bonus to all AI players :

- Increasing their base learning rate experience : 40% base bonus, +15% increment for difficulty (instead of 0% and 10% increment). It means prince-king-emperor-Immortal-Deity AI players will have respectively 40%, 55%, 70%, 85% and 100% experience bonus on all their units (air/land/sea) instead of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% which between you and me represent hardly nothing for AI which always sacrifice their most promoted units on first line. So these numbers seems kinda fair to me for now, im actually testing with that.

- Giving to all of their unit a free promotion as soon as they are trained. I know, it seems a little bit excessive at first but they really deserve it, and lvl1 promotion happen so fast for us anyway. Unit which already has a free promotion when created won't be affected.

- Giving wave of free promotions which affect specific units only if they exists on the map (either land units, either sea units, either air units, or a mix of them) depending of an AI civic breakthrough. I tried to stay realistic and have imagined they were promoting soldiers because their people discovered something new about war. So for now, i planned it like that :

  • Military training (Ranged, Siege, Ranged Cavalry, Anti-Cavalry, Warrior Monks)
  • Feudalism (Melee, Heavy and Light Cavalary)
  • Nationalism (All Land Units)
  • Mobilization (All Land Units)
  • Cold War (All Land and Sea Units)

  • Naval Tradition (All Sea Units)
  • Exploration (All Sea Units)
  • Colonialism (All Sea Units)

  • Rapid Deployment (All Air Units)

This is not definitive, i might have better ideas with time. For now that's how it is, and let's see where this is taking us to !

This mod only work when a whole new game is created while activated and can't work fully on already existing saves. Sorry it couldn't be avoidable. (It actually can work if you add the famous line in the modinfo but i don't advise it for this mod integrity)

This mod is meant to be compatible with most of the existing mods (has been tested with 150+ of my mods). Though if you have a problem, you can notice me if you need help to fix it manually.

You can find all my mods by searching "Radiant" in steam workshop, nexus, or civfanatics, which is a recurrent word in all my mod's tittles.

Even if they represent hundreds of working hours, I'm sharing my mods for free like most of mod creators. But deep down I'm really hoping you to do that little extra thing that would help me a lot : joining any of my pages (patreon, facebook, instagram). Just that really! Don't feel obliged to give something, with Patreon there is indeed a free option that grants you basic news/content and it will only take few seconds of your time. That being said I'm an artist irl and I sometimes struggle to put my personal projects on the saddle. By giving a little something or joining my ranks you can trigger a course of actions/reactions that might end up gathering more people around, thus helping me building the motivation and means to create more stuff to appreciate.

I apologize. I don't know how the game works so I asked on a different mod of yours if the City States get the same bonuses. I don't mind if they are better at attacking me as long as City States don't get wiped out. It looks like the City State issue has already been tested. I will eagerly wait for you return to modding. Be well.

Ouch. I had not considered the Foreign Ministry.

I've not tried Hungary yet. Saw a YouTube video prior launch, by Marbozir, entitled: "Hungary is Actually Beyond Insane - Civilization VI Gathering Storm".

I wouldn't want to play against a human controlled Hungary intent on my destruction.

@ubereffect - aha, just read your levying units concern - and yes, you're spot on. As Hungary, an unintended consequence was that I could levy considerably promoted units. On the other hand, I like the CSs also benefiting from promoted units (it somewhat helps them survive), and if we're talking balance with Hungary, the foreign ministry is the real disrupter...

OK - so I've now played through my GS/1.0.0.290 warmongering-Hungary game with this switched on, AI units are getting upgraded to level 3 and 4, and I could see no obvious defects with the mod. @ubereffect - your compatibility update code tag correct to me.

Raven_2012 posted the following in another mod's comment section:

"You probably need to add this code in the <Properties> area in .modinfo, so the mod doesn't get flagged as incompatible:
<CompatibleVersions>1.2,2.0</CompatibleVersions>

I believe the 1.2 in the code means it is backwards compatible. I notice some mods just have 2.0, but a lot have the 1.2,2.0. I assume to be backwards compatible for players who don't have GS."

I hope this helps. Best wishes.

I like the concept. This mod looks very interesting. I'm guessing it plays nice with mods that attempt to help the AI by giving them yield bonuses (production, and such), attempt to have them play smarter, and maybe even mods that play with combat strength modifiers?

City States concern me however. Specifically levied units. More so with Gathering Storm's introduction of Matthias Corvinus of Hungary, as he's especially able to take advantage of levied units.

Maybe make it so promotions increase the cost of levying units? And make it so city state units don't get faster promotions, while levied by human players? Or maybe just give city states a territorial buff, like how Defender of the Faith works instead?
