There's an example in the description. I'll elaborate here a bit: To use the Alchemy spell, you have to have 500 society currency - which unlocks the baseline option. The other options are tiered at 1000 and 2000 respectively, going down the list. So the lower-most option (that isn't the 'Nothing' option) is 2000.
This is also true for the summoning spells - they're tiered. These shouldn't appear at all unless you can cast them, however, so there's a good chance that if you do not have enough, there will be only the baseline option and 'nothing' to choose from.
