Isolation BE

Description
In this Beyond Earth version of my popular Civ 5 map script, each player is isolated in a small, fertile area only big enough for one major city. Between them is nothing but wasteland. I always envisioned this map concept as landing on an inhospitable but sparsely terraformed planet, and as such, it fits in Beyond Earth even better than Civ 5.

This script is great for one-city challenges, exploration, or simply playing in a world without oceans. Many options are included to tweak the geography of the wasteland or the fertility of player starts and all can be randomized.

I can guarantee that this map script is unlike any you've played before. Most maps generate terrain before finding player starts, but this one finds the starts and then generates terrain around them. Because of this, the entire generation process had to be written from scratch. And this makes for a very unique and interesting world.

Options
  • Terrain - Sets the terrain that the wasteland will be, either snow or desert.
  • Topography - Sets a theme for the composition of hills, mountains, and canyons in the wasteland. (See screenshots above.)
  • Miasma - Sets the amount of miasma and alien nests to generate.
  • Player Size - Sets the tile radius of the civilization starts in the game. E.g. when this is set to 5, the starting areas will be 11 tiles across or 5 * 2 + 1.
  • Resources - Similar to the generic resources option that most standard maps have, however completely customized. Sparse will yield about 6 resources per player start, normal about 11, and abundant about 16.
  • Start Epicness - This option allows players to stack the odds in their favor by granting bonuses to only the human player. At each level, more bonuses are added. This option is disabled in multiplayer, however.
  • All Coastal Starts - When enabled, this standard map option will cause every start to spawn a lake.

Notes
  • As colony landers already begin over the center of their fertile area, choosing a different landing site or the Retrograde Thrusters option is generally not useful.
  • Because of the rules that marvels have for placement, they will only appear on certain combinations of biome and terrain options.
  • The AI still gets a bit over-zealous with the city expansion. Turning down the player size option may temper this some. Or try this mod that keeps AI from putting cities too close to each other.
  • As with all maps and map scripts, you can play this in multiplayer or unmodded singleplayer by copying the .lua file from My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth\MODS\Isolation to My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth\Maps.

That does sound like a map generation issue, but I don't see that there's a new update to the game. Are there other mods present? Can you reproduce the issue?

I know it's been a while: Im playing this game today and when the game start, its all black and I can't even open de pause menu.
Is it because of the new update?

zArkham4269 Agreed! That would be sick. I thought this map had a water world like you described.

Damn and here I was hoping this was a "world to *myself*, f off ai" mod. I want to *achieve* things not "win" them.

I realize it seems no one still play BE, but I was thinking a interesting variation of this would be a world almost completely water. It Isolation bit would be there would be an area of small islands, many being hills and mountains to represent volcanic islands near the start points.

Then the rest of the map would be open ocean with the occasional 1-2 hex island. So far, even with advanced set-up, oceanic and archipeligo worlds still have way too much land.

Would work in a pretty interesting way with the Codex mod. You can at least do stuff with snow and desert so it isn't all bad.

Found it.

It's in the "Advanced Worlds" in the setup menus.

I subscribed, but none of the options show up.

It plays fine, i.e. a regular game, but that's just it.
It's a regular game, no "isolation" whatsoever.

I used the "Immersive Armies" and "Unlimited EXP from Aliens" mods
Am I missing a crucial step?

Great! I played on a dwarf area and there was this large expanse that really needed another player in it.

Every AI and human player gets a fertile starting area.
