FirstDayWorkhorse [Creative only]

Description
This boat is designed using only early career items. You can spawn it right away in a career game at the small boat bay.

Although it is technically a small boat, it utilizes all the space available in the small boat bay.

NEW:

- Trimmed and ballast adjusted to cope with the latest changes in the game.

Upcoming

- Advanced version once I figure out how to make it efficient.

Main features:

- Crew of 8.
- Enough cargo space to complete most level 1 or 2 missions in a single trip.
- Back ramp at sea level to load/unload heavier items.
- Navigational lights, interior lights, and front beamlights.
- Side ladders lead to the passenger bay for extra fast rescue.
- Rides at "pier height" when it stops.
- Access to the top decks for quick loading/unloading of boxes at higher facilities.
- Bridge placed at the front for extra visibility.
- Magnet
- Searchlight (Pan with left/right arrow keys)
- 2 Beds

The Pontoon design allows the craft to ride high (unless overloaded) and very stable in calm or rough seas. I haven't been able to capsize it, even while riding backwards in a tight turn.

Notes:

- If you spawn it on the first day you will be missing a linear sensor. That won't affect the boat at all. When you get your hands on one of those all you have to do is respawn the boat from the workshop and you will have a working speedometer.

- It is not the fastest horse on the stable but it keeps a decent 13 m/s when running on all engines. It can do most missions on a single trip. The higher cargo/passenger capacity means it can beat a faster ship by doing a single trip.

- It happens to be a champ at towing. If you approach the back of a tanker the deck and pontoons will lock in place and you can even steer the big ship around without having to move. Totally by design ;)

While this is not the first boat of this type on the Workshop, I believe it is one of the few you can spawn with the starting resources. Leave me a note if you like it.

Sorry, I thought I'd annotated all my creations that were broken by later patches. This one was killed at some point in 2016. I've updated the title to reflect the status of the build.

Ballast and trim adjusted for the latest patch. Added a set of horizontal planes to force it to ride on the pontoons. This is neccessary due to the reduction in propeller/angine efficiency in the latest patches.

I know what you mean. I had to move the engines forward in the pontoons on this model to keep the stern from dragging in the water. and the generator I posted was tweaked to not explode, now it does if it's not monitored.

Hello. Yes, I will place a link on this page. The changes in bouyancy and engine power in the last few weeks sort of threw my effort off track. I am waiting a bit for the turbulence in the patches to stabilize a bit so that I can tweak one of my candidate hulls. I've ended up with several partial reworks do to all the inestability.

I noticed in the comments that you are planning an update for Advanced mode. would the link for that be placed in this DESC like your other models when that one is done?

I noticed the drift. I checked all the connections and came to the conclusion that the drift is caused by the weight of the pilot. Seriously.

I chalking that one off to patch weirdness. I don't think it'll be wise to do something about it. I'll wait to see if the next couple patches take care of it before I start cutting stuff. :D

In the meantime, I reconnected the Aux engines. I expect engine/propeller power in normal to be tweaked again soon given that everything is moving in slow motion after tha last patch. We will see.
