Usually when you get incapped twice you enter black/white mode.
I've been playing with that for years and it bothered me, so i made a mod that just boosts the saturation a bit, instead of taking all color away.

pretty good to be honest, it doesnt annoy during gameplay and doesnt complicate to see stuff, and the slight saturation helps you to notice that you are in the thirdstrike

Higher saturation does not give you any advantage in gameplay.

This mod i basically just a differently colored filter over your screen. i don't think this could cause fps drops.
I think that particle itself is just lagging the game and you noticed it now because you're paying extra attention
