This is my frustrating many times trying to finish the 3rd jump:

Now after watching the walkthrough it's clear that strafe jumping was not the intended solution. Still it worked for me, after a few minutes of pain.
In my opinion you should've made it possible to finish using the ramp from the second jump, that'd be nice. (but there isn't much air control in Portal 2 to strafe to the end).
