The GTA 5 Beautification Project is a short step by step modification guide for enhancing the games visuals & effects, plus adding some new content. It includes improved stability for modding, better vegetation, new cars and a some world enhancements. See screenshots below.

Update note: When the Steam client forces you to update, DON'T update the modded game.
If you have a backup of the vanilla game for online use, then it's very easily done by renaming the modded copy folder to e.g. "Grand Theft Auto V - Mods", then rename the online vanilla-copy to "Grand Theft Auto V". When Steam is done updating, rename the Grand Theft Auto V back to e.g. "Grand Theft Auto V - Online", and "Grand Theft Auto V - Mods" back to "Grand Theft Auto V".
That way Steam thinks your game is updated, and it won't force it any more.
If you don't have a backup for online gaming, then don't update. Just make a copy of the game folder, then reinstall the game, so you have a fresh updated game for online use. When done, use the new install for online, and the modded version for single-player.
