This is as of Jan 4 2018 the fastest piston only powered train on the workshop
It can cross a flat map under its own power in 2min 36sec (timed from activation to wall at other end) with the wheels averaging 110 RPM recorded using Mini's Engine Tester 5000 attached to a wagon behind the locomotive

Feel free to experiment with it race it or even reverse engineer the thing, find out what makes it tick but good luck being faster, the bearing physics cannot take much more force and even on this build the wheels rock foward and back quite badly

As a word of warning try really hard not to fall off while moving because the train moves faster than sprinting so if you do fall get the lift out fast
