Description
Introduction
This workshop item allows you to drive on Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and New York & Atlantic (NY&A) paths on Quick Drive for the New York - New Haven route. Only a fraction of the LIRR and NY&A railroads were included in the NYNH route, but they still allow for some operations and services to be done in the simulator.
The Long Island Railroad is a Class II passenger railroad. It used to do freight service until it gave operations over to the NY&A in 1997. The NY&A serves freight customers throughout Long Island.

Requirements
  • NEC: New York-New Haven Route Add-On
That's it! NYNH is the only requirement here since it's the base route. AI and static consists spawn based on what DLC you have - they are not required. See below for a list of trains that can spawn.

LIRR Locations
  • West Side Yard (LIRR)
-A big LIRR yard located just outside of Penn Station on the West Side of Manhatten. The actual yard itself is completely missing, so instead you will be instructed to stop on one of the entry tracks/sidings into the yard.
  • New York Penn
-Also known as "Penn Station," this station serves the LIRR, Amtrak, and NJT. If you go out from Penn Station towards Arch St. or Woodside, you'll spawn on Track 13. Otherwise, you'll be set for Track 17.
  • Woodside Mainline (LIRR)
-The part of Woodside that goes to and from the mainline (to/from Jamacia). Note: I didn't touch the scenery here, so please feel free to add in the missing details. You may also find random stuff on the tracks, but that's the fault of the devs
  • Woodside Port Washington (LIRR)
-The part of Woodside that goes to and from the Port Washington branch
  • Arch St. Facility (LIRR)
-A facility that was meant to serve EMU's, but now it doesn't seem too active. In fact, there's a rotting M3 sitting there IRL. But this should see more use once the East Side Access project is completed. Added scenery to this location since the area was left blank.
  • Hunterspoint Ave. (LIRR)
-A station inbetween LIC and Woodside. WARNING: There is a red signal glitch here. If you happen to run into one, simply press TAB and it should fix it.
  • Long Island City (LIRR)
-A big yard meant to store Diesel push-pull consists, but also a station (a sad one, in fact). Set for track 4 to allow for Third Rail trains to be used.
  • ex-LIRR Lower Montauk
-This location allows you to run to and from the Lower Montauk Branch. It acts the same way as Fresh Pond (NY&A) except this allows you to come to and from the LIC platforms.
⚡ = Third Rail Electrified (Can use third rail trains, or Overhead-Wire/Pantograph trains if you wish even though it wont look right)

NY&A Locations
WARNING: USE SHORT TRAINS ONLY. Keep trains to a maximum of 270-290 meters (885 - 951 ft). Otherwise, you will encounter errors and strange glitches. If you get an error that says "cannot find location," try using a shorter train.
  • Long Island City (LIRR)
-Connected to the NY&A lines so that you can run to and from in the small yard that LIC has
  • Arch St. (NY&A)
-A small freight terminus, just next to the LIRR's facility. To get to and from here, you must reverse and take the overpass. I have markers indicating where you need to reverse to go over the overpass.
  • Wheelspur (NY&A)
-This new freight terminus that replaced Arch St. just outside of LIC. One problem though: The yard doesn't exist in the time NYNH is set in! But the siding that was always there was included in the route, so you will be set there instead. To get to and from this siding (or "yard"), you will need to pull into LIC all the way and go back out. Make sure the auto-DS sets the switches properly.
  • Blissville (NY&A)
-Another yard just outside of Long Island City, located where the overpass merges with the Lower Montauk branch. But this yard doesn't exist in NYNH either! This might be because it's at the edge of the route and the devs didn't bother. Instead, you will be set for the signal located at Blissville.
  • Fresh Pond (NY&A)
-This doesn't actually go to Fresh Pond, but instead allows you to utilize the extra length of the Lower Montauk past the Blissville signal. This is also meant to set things up for a possible future CSX Quick Drive
AI & Static Consist Spawning
In this quick drive, I've set up some AI and static consists. They depend on what DLC you have, but there's also ways to disable them.
Here are some known trains that can spawn:
  • Amtrak ACS-64
  • CSX SD40-2 (with and without Garbage Hoppers)
  • CSX Genset (with and without Centerbeams)
  • Amtrak HHP-8
  • Metro-North P32 AC-DM 'Genesis'
  • Metro-North Kawasaki M8 EMU (both OH and Third Rail variants)
  • New Haven FL9 (WARNING: These things seem to invade the entire route. If you get bothered by their constant presence, please follow the steps below for how to disable AI spawning consists)
  • LIRR M7[railworksamerica.com]
  • LIRR M9[railworksamerica.com]
  • Metro North M7A[railworksamerica.com]
Keep in mind you may seem some strange and out of place spawning, for example a P32 Diesel coming from the Amtrak Hell Gate line. But this is because the spawning is random, and the only control I have is indicating what 'group' of trains can spawn, and what kinds of electrification is allowed. All of the passegner trains were grouped into one whole 'group,' so I wasn't able to differentiate between them.

Disabling AI & static consist spawning for certain trains
So there's a train you're bothered by huh? No problem, there's 3 different ways of disabling AI and consist spawning:
  1. Uninstall the whole DLC
  2. Delete or disable the Preload folder of the DLC
  3. Delete the line of code of each consist that specifies that the train can spawn on the NYNH route. It should look somewhat like this:
    <cConsistValidRoute d:id="213605"> <RouteGUID d:type="cDeltaString">00000028-0000-0000-0000-000000002014</RouteGUID> </cConsistValidRoute>

Experiment at your own caution and remember to backup your stuff

Known Issues
  • The dead AI glitch - this is when an AI just sits around and doesn't move AT ALL. This just means that the AI errors out and decides not to do anything. If this happens, do not worry and just ignore it - it's better than having an error message pop up.
  • The vanishing AI glitch - acts the same way as the dead AI glitch, except after a few seconds the AI just vanishes. Don't worry about this.
  • Red Signal glitch around LIC and Hunterspoint Ave. If this happens, just press TAB and the signal should change. I think this also happens outside of Arch St. and if so, just do the same thing.
  • "Could not find [destination]" errors - this usually happens with the NY&A locations. This usually means that there isn't enough room for your train to reverse. If this happens, just pick a shorter train.
  • Error messages regarding clashes with AI - oh great, is the AI acting up again? Please let me know if this happens and provide as much details as you can. Delete the AI spawning marker in the quick drive scenario file if you want to permanently fix this.

I'll do it, save yourself some time

I could potentially do a Metro North quick drive with Harlem and Hudson locations added in, but I don't really plan on making any QD's atm.
Thank you for the suggestion though!

Can you please add Yankees-E153 to the Quick Drive?

I addressed that under the "LIRR Locations" section

When I saw West Side Yard, I thought it meant full-out, all the tracks, outside West Side Yard. Not just the track leading to it. I was a little disappointed to find this, but other than that it's not bad.

I was able to get it to work after letting it decompress and download in railworks, then restarting it, so it should work. And no I'm not working on any routes, this is just a Quick Drive setup

dose this work and are you working on any other Lirr routes such as Ronkonkma branch line
